Afrobeta: A Must See Performer at SunFest

Sunfest

With Sunfest less than a month away TYF wanted to shed light on one of the artists that will be performing this year.

If you’re not from South Florida let me first introduce you to what Sunfest is all about!

Sunfest began in 1982, and it is the largest waterfront music and art festival in Florida. Every year it is held in downtown West Palm Beach during the first week of May. Over the years, the Sunfest staff has worked very hard on creating a great line up. More and more often they have been able to host big name performers.

In 2013, they were able to have Ed Sheeran and Kendrick Lamar in what was a breakout year for both of their careers.

This year, Sunfest has stepped up its game even more. Some of the big performing acts include: Ellie Goulding, Robin Thicke, Austin Mahone, J.Cole, Kid Rock and the Goo Goo Dolls.

But, just in case you’re looking to find a new musical act to love or straying away from the big crowds, TYF is spotlighting one of Sunfest’s 2014 musical acts that you can’t miss out on.

No, not Afrojack. Not Afrobeat.

Are they new to the music scene? Not at all.

This avant-dance duo is right here from Miami! They have been making their way around the music world since 2006. The Miami New Times even named them Best Band in 2010.

The group is formed by Cuci Amador and Smurphio, and the bond that brought them together was a “mutual love of classic songwriting, Cuban pastries and dancing till 5 am.”

Afrobeta has played at New York Fall Fashion Week, Ultra Brazil, Ultra Miami, and Identity Festival among many others events and venues.

Their sound is full of funky synths and head bopping bass lines. Their songs range from perfect dance party music to something to vibe to while doing your homework. Smurphio’s voice is fun and light. You can listen to her in the 13- track album called “Under the Streets” and not get a headache from hearing her repeatedly. Their songs almost make you feel like a cool hipster kid. You can probably play their album at home and just pretend you’re at your own version of Coachella.

But why pretend when you can just go see them live at Sunfest?

They’ll be playing Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. There are still early bird tickets available. Just click the link below if you would like to purchase tickets on the Sunfest website.
