Aaaaanddddd they’re back!

It’s quite funny that I had recently been pondering on when Maroon 5 was going to come back and hit us with some fresh new music. It’s probably because I heard one of their hits from their album, Overexposed, being overplayed on the radio yet again.

But anyways, Maroon 5 has released their lead single called “Maps” that comes from their fifth studio album, “V.” This new album will officially be released September 2nd, 2014. It was recorded in LA, and the band worked with hit making producers such as Benny Blanco, Max Martin and Ryan Tedder (from One Republic). This album will also have the band reuniting with their keyboardist Jesse Carmichael, who had taken a break while Maroon 5 recorded “Overexposed.”

After a very pop album, it seems that with “Maps” the band decided to dip a little bit back into their old sound while still mixing in a little of their new pop sound as well. Personally, I think it works well. The guitar’s intro reminds me a bit of their “Songs about Jane” sound. But as the song progresses the beat that cruises throughout the chorus brings us back to the Maroon 5 that we saw with songs such as “One More Night.”

“Overexposed” gave the band their biggest success yet. “V” will have to prove to be a great follow-up album. But, we expect nothing less from a band from Maroon 5. They have a wide range of musical abilities that doesn’t confine them in a box. “Maps” has not disappointed me as their lead single ,and it could be one of the summer’s staple songs. Surely, though the band’s sound may change, lead singer Adam Levine’s vocals do not waiver in their excellence.

Listen to the song below. You’ll also be hearing it throughout the day at the top of every hour on all your favorite Top 40 stations.
