One day as I was fucking around on 2dopeboyz.com, I came across a track from an independent group that featured Game, E-40, and Tech N9ne. This track caught me by surprise; not because of the features being any good, but due to the hypnotic hook as well as the production. This collective isn’t a hip-hop group like Wu-Tang or Bone-Thugs, but rather an unconventional hip-hop band. What caught my attention after hearing that track was their concept as a group; it seems like they are obvious druggies. Someone who goes under the pseudonym Dr. Csalohcin started the group that consists of singers, instrumentalists, and emcees. The emcees that stand out from the group have been Ryan Anthony, Golden Boy, Ryan Bowers, and Hero.
These guys have interesting flows that don’t sound conventional, unlike their lyrical subject matter half the time. This is usually because half the time they are generic weed rappers, but when they switch it up the sound is derived from the Dr. C, Don Druggie, and Black Angel, especially on the track “Nightmare Town.” On this track they try to show a gritty side of west coast flare in the instrumental, while their delivery has this ominous scare, like right before Jason goes for a kill in the first Friday the 13th.

They are also very hyphy with other tracks like “Pop it for a Player,” or very alternative with “Respect the Shooter.” But the focus on guitars, beat boxers, and drums are very apparent in the track “Veins.” It has a mix of raw, deep hip-hop with a classic R&B sounding group. The instrumental is the pivotal part of this track; it adds atmosphere, while the visual has a lot of slow pans, and gripping angle shots.

Psych Ward Druggies are an interesting hip-hop group. I can actually consider them an actual band since they use an abundance of instruments. Check ’em out and hopefully you’ll think they are as dope as I say they are.
