With a folksy, home-grown, infectious music style, it’s hard not to enjoy Jeremy Loops’ new single, “Sinner”.
You may not have heard his name before, but for the modern folk music enthusiasts he’s one you’ll know soon enough. His debut album, “Trading Change”, debuted at #1 on iTunes in South Africa. Rocking the one man folk band vibe, he sticks out due to his percussive sound, thanks to his namesake loop pedal that allows him to layer multiple rhythms, melodies, and instruments.
When he isn’t making music he works for Greenpop, an organization that he co-founded to help educate students in southern Africa about their environmental impact, facilitating tree plantings in small communities throughout the region. Greenpop was hatched as a small effort to educate underprivileged schoolchildren about the importance of protecting the planet, and rapidly exploded into a movement backed by thousands of volunteers who together have planted over 40,000 trees.
His single, “Sinner”, offers a good look at the type of artist he is: enthusiastic, with an eclectic instrumental sound. The song is simple but sweet, and with summer coming to an end it’s a much needed burst of energy. City production mixed with rural sounds offer up a fresh sound for an old style. His music video for “Sinner” brings out the same feeling: it’s colorful, lively and full of sound, all shot on the streets of New York.
