9 Fall Out Boy Songs to Make You Feel Nostalgic

I know, I know… you’ve probably seen a list like this on the interwebs before, but with the 2015 Sunfest Lineup announcement this past week, I couldn’t help but feel a little nostalgic about one of my favorite bands…FALL OUT BOY! Before their “comeback” (When did they leave?!) in 2013 with “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark” (which happens to be the most epic comeback song in the history of comeback songs), Fall Out Boy had a solid career in the punk rock music industry. They were changing the game. And I hate to break it to you, but you most certainly jammed out to these songs a few years back during your “emo stage”. Don’t deny it, you and I both know we went through it. You (we?) wore your (our?) jet black eye liner, ripped jeans and chucks everywhere we went.

Fall Out Boy was the first band I went to see on my own, with my own money, and it represented the start of a beautiful friendship between me and emo/punk rock music. I will admit my love for that genre has dwindled down a bit over the years, but I’ll never NOT like those staple Fueled by Ramen bands. You know the ones: Paramore, Fall Out Boy, PANIC! at the Disco etc. Fall Out Boy has evolved so much since their “Take this to Your Grave” days when long song titles that made no sense were all the rage. But it’s easy to forget those songs that made them who they are now. Let’s dive into those songs that really hooked us and reeled us in! (Warning: You will not find “Dance, Dance” or “Sugar, We’re Going Down” on this list…)

Song: Dead on Arrival | Album: Take This to Your Grave

You can really see how much they’ve evolved as a band just by watching this video. FEELS. I have them.

Song: Grand Theft Autumn/ Where Is Your Boy | Album: Take This to Your Grave

This is my ALL TIME favorite FOB song. It has such a feel good, yet hyped up sound. So perfect in so many ways. It’s also 8-years-old already, so let that settle in. WELP!

Song: Saturday | Album: Take This to Your Grave

SUCH great video quality! (Psych! [people still say that right?]) This is really taking me down memory lane. Anyone else having High School memories? No? Just me? Let’s move on before reaching my mid 20’s really kicks in and I start playing my emo playlist…

Song: Of All the Gin Joints in All the World | Album: From Under the Cork Tree

And oh, the way your makeup stains my pillow case” (insert more Emo lyric AIM away messages here)

Song: I’ve Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song) | Album: From Under the Cork Tree

Remember when I said long titles that didn’t make sense were in? Yeah, perfect example. Probably one of those most overlooked songs on the album because of its slower melody, yet it’s one of their greatest to me. Who knew the lyrics would be so meaningful in my 20’s? “I’ve been comparing myself to everyone else around me“– hello, the start of my quarter life crisis in one lyric!

Song: Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year | Album: From Under the Cork Tree

“Are we growing up or just going down? It’s just a matter of time until we’re all found out”— My go-to anthem when I was a sophomore and my parents wouldn’t let me go do loser laps with my friends at the mall on a Friday night. “I’m growing up, Mom, not down!”

Song: A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More “Touch Me” | Album: From Under the Cork Tree

Movin’ on up with the music videos! First of all, this video is horribly fun. But listen to those opening lyrics: “I confess, I messed up. Drop it. I’m sorry!” THANKS FOR MAKING IT EASIER TO APOLOGIZE TO MY BEST FRIEND FOR STEALING HER BOYFRIEND, FALL OUT BOY!

Song: The Take Over, The Breaks Over | Album: Infinity on High

This is when you can feel and hear the change of sound that Fall Out Boy made between From Under the Cork Tree and Infinity on High. Even in the video you can see they dealt with a lot of hate from fans when they released this album. Their new sound wasn’t bad by any means, just different. Less emo, a little bit crisper and cleaner, probably due to all of their new friends who helped them work on the album (aka Babyface and Jay-Z).

Song: I’m Like A Lawyer with the Way I’m Always Trying to Get You Off (Me & You) | Album: Infinity on High

“We’re the new face of failure. Prettier and younger, but not any better off.” Right in the feels, FOB.

THNKS FR TH MMRS, FALL OUT BOY.
