We’ve learned that singer/songwriter/actress Demi Lovato‘s deal was done late last night. So Fox will introduce her and already locked-in Britney Spears as its new judges for Simon Cowell’s fall talent show The X Factor at today’s upfront in NYC.
It looks like we’ll be getting official confirmation about Demi Lovato joining the show at any moment. I watched the first 2 or 3 episodes of The X-Factor and can’t say that I got really into it. Bringing Britney and Demi on board, it looks like Simon is trying to grasp at the same success NBC’s The Voice is having. As a Britney fan, I’ll give The X-Factor another chance this season. I’m curious to see Britney Spears as judge. As for Demi Lovato, that’s a more unexpected choice. I see that they’re trying to bring in a younger demographic, and Demi has a rather large and dedicated fanbase. Does she have the chops to be a decent judge though? That remains to be seen; however, the track record for insightful celebrity judges’ critiques leaves A LOT to be desired. So it really doesn’t matter, as long as she and Britney bring in the ratings.
