It’s been four long years since we last heard from alternative rock band Garbage. But good things happen to those who patiently wait (or so I’ve heard). Back in 2012, Not Your Kind of People performed well on music charts and among critics and fans. Since then, the band has been back in the studio mixing and matching new tunes for a new album.
Just a few weeks ago, the band announced the release of Strange Little Birds, their sixth studio album ready for all of us to hear. As a little preview, Shirley Manson and the rest of the gang issued the first single from it: “Empty”. From beginning to end, the track transports you back to the band’s origins in the late 90s thanks to Manson’s voice and Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig’s rhythm. “The guiding principle was keeping it fresh, and relying on instinct both lyrically and musically,” states Manson in a press release. “To me, this record, funnily enough, has the most to do with the first record than any of the previous records,” continued Manson. “It’s getting back to that beginner’s headspace.”
Back to basics you say Ms. Manson? I like the sound of that! The second single released, “Even Though Our Love is Doomed”, is much slower, but very powerful lyric-wise. Strange Little Birds will have 11 tracks and is scheduled to be released on June 10. While we wait for it, watch the video for “Empty” below and let us know what you think in the comments!
