In the past, Kings of Leon have rejected opportunities to have their music played on television shows. One of the shows they refused was “Glee.” And lets say that the show’s creator didn’t take to that rejection all too well.
According to SPIN, here is what Ryan Murphy had to say:
“F–k you, Kings of Leon,” Murphy says in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “They’re self-centered assholes… They missed that a 7-year-old kid can see someone close to their age singing a Kings of Leon song, which will maybe make them want to join a glee club or pick up a musical instrument. It’s like, OK, hate on arts education. You can make fun of Glee all you want, but at its heart, what we really do is turn kids on to music.”
Lead singer of Kings of Leon, Caleb Followill, responded to Murphy’s comments saying:
“This whole Glee thing is a shock to us,” he told the Reporter. “It’s gotten out of hand. At the time of the request, we hadn’t even seen the show. It came at the end of that record cycle, and we were over promoting [the band’s hit single “Use Somebody”]. This was never meant as a slap in the face to Glee or to music education or to fans of the show. We’re not sure where the anger is coming from.”
Also, we saw that Nathan Followill (Kings of Leon drummer) tweeted about the controversy:

So what do you guys think about this? Besides the fact that Murphy probably ruined any chance of Kings of Leon ever allowing them to use their music for “Glee”, we think they both made points. Nonetheless, the way Murphy started this fight wasn’t right at all.
