Wire prepare new album “Silver/Lead”

Post-punk icons Wire have announced plans to release their 15th studio album this spring.

Silver/Lead will be released on the band’s own Pinkflag label on March 31, which as Pitchfork points out, coincides with the 40th anniversary of their first concert. The album is the followup to Nocturnal Koreans, which the band released last year.

Wire are widely considered to be pioneers of the post-punk genre, releasing three iconic records – Pink Flag (1977), Chairs Missing (1978) and 154 (1979) – before disbanding in 1980. The band resurfaced in 1985 and released five more albums before splitting a second time in 1991. The band reunited for a third time in 1999 and have remained together ever since, releasing six more albums and a handful of EPs.

Silver/Lead is available for pre-order from the band’s official website. The group has also released the album’s first single, “Short Elevated Period”, on their Soundcloud, which can be found below.
