Listen to ‘Where’s the Revolution?’, Depeche Mode’s new single

It’s been almost four years since we heard Dave Gahan’s voice behind a synthpop beat. It’s time to wake up those ears for a new electronic vibe. Depeche Mode is ready to return to the music scene, with a very strong message for all of us to hear. Just a few days ago, the band released “Where’s the Revolution”, the first single from their upcoming 14th studio album entitled Spirit.

The 5-minute track starts with a slow synthesiser beat that is later joined by Gahan’s powerful lyrics: “You’ve been kept down. You’ve been pushed ’round. You’ve been lied to. You’ve been fed truths. Who’s making your decisions? You or your religion? Your government, your countries? You patriotic junkies.” In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Gahan mentions that Spirit will not exactly be a political album. “It’s definitely about humanity and our place in that,” Gahan says. “We called the album Spirit, because it’s like, ‘Where’s the spirit gone?’ or ‘Where’s the spirit in humanity?‘”.

Considering all the “crazy” stuff that’s been going on around the world lately, this new album could not have come at a better time. Maybe as a wake-up call? Only time will tell.

Spirit is set to be released on March 17 via Columbia Records. In the meantime, listen to “Where’s the Revolution” below and let us know what you think!
