After seeing several of their live performances both on television and on YouTube, I knew I had to see Rixton live. Their amazing stage presence and talent had to be cherished in person, so I made sure to grab a few tickets to their San Francisco concert at Slim’s on August 21st. Slim’s is a popular San Francisco concert venue that has a cool rustic appeal to it, and the environment made the concert feel intimate.
Rixton, a band from the U.K., has been on the road in the United States for their Broken Heart Tour. Their single, “Me and My Broken Heart,” has captured a lot of attention from local radio stations in the Bay Area, and the news of this talented band is only growing.
At the beginning of the event, they had two opening acts. First was a pop teen duo, Michael and Marisa, and then rapper T. Mills hit the stage afterward. Michael and Marisa had great vocals and started to get the crowd going with numbers that had a pop and jazz vibe to them. They had a unique sound and sounded great together. Between each of their songs, they were engaging the audience, and the energy started to pick up in the room.
Then the mood changed once T. Mills hit the stage. As an artist, he had a completely different sound than Michael and Marisa, so I appreciated the variety in music. The rapper, who is from Riverside, California, had the perfect vibe that resonated well with this Bay Area audience. Watching a lot of people dance and bob their heads to the beat, I could definitely tell that the crowd was enjoying themselves. Thus far, I had enjoyed the array of musical talent that was on stage. But now, it was time for Rixton.
If I had to describe how I was when Rixton performed, I would call it: Fangirling 2.0.
Rixton played a mix of songs that were from their album as well as covers they had done and posted on YouTube. My favorite cover is “Problem” by Ariana Grande. From the snaps to the four-part harmonies, it was perfection to my ears. Also, I got chills when I heard the guitar solos – these guys can definitely play and put on a show!
My favorite song from their album would have to be “Hotel Ceiling.” It has a mellow tone compared to their other songs, so it allowed them to really show off their vocal skills. Also, I really like the lyrics, and I loved how I got to finally hear it live.
Even though the guys had loads of British charm and wit, these guys can also sing, dance, and make us laugh. How many people can say that their concert had a twerking contest? Honestly, what can these boys not do! I was laughing too much over all of the guys’ twerking that I forget who the winner was. So, let’s just say they all looked like they practiced their twerking quite a bit.

Throughout the night, I noticed that each of these guys had different talents that complemented each other. Charley harmonized with ease through each of the songs and had amazing guitar solos. Jake was a pro dancer, had comedic talent, and can sing so beautifully. Danny had skills like no other on the piano and had a number of jokes to tell throughout the night as well. Lewi was great on set and even showed off his twerking skills.
Jake, Lewi, Charley, and Danny have formed such a solid brotherhood that they immediately melted my heart. I could tell that they enjoyed playing for others and getting to perform and share in their dream with each other. I adored them as people and as musicians, and fell in love with their story of how they started and got to where they are now, making this concert totally and absolutely worth it!

I cannot express enough how much fun it was to be in the crowd and get to hear the band live, listen to all of their harmonies in the songs, and laugh at all of the jokes they were telling us. It was a fun and lively atmosphere, and one I hope to re-live again soon. I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for them, and I know it’s only the beginning. They are the complete package, and I could see the passion they have for music and for their band. It was both a pleasure and an honor to get to meet them in this stage of their career, and I will definitely see them again when they are in San Francisco. But until then, I guess it’s just “Me and My Broken Heart.”
