Music News: Maroon 5 Releases New Music Video for “Animals”

Today Maroon 5 released its new music video for current single “Animals,” from its album, V. This catchy tune has been stuck in my head ever since I heard it on the radio. And yes, you do hear Adam Levine holler in the song! Still unsure if it is sexy or a bit out there. Also, I have been a huge fan of Maroon 5 for a very long time and always love the music they release. Time and time again, they prove to be edgy and continue to push the boundaries. But it looks like the band has brought the edge and the lyrics a bit far on this one.

From blood and animal carcasses to creepy stalking, it appears that this music video has already stirred up some drama and a ton of differing opinions. The video stars Adam’s wife, Behati Prinsloo, while Adam plays a stalker-like character. From the eyeglasses, beard, and his black hoodie, it looks like he is definitely on the prowl. We see him transform into a psycho. He has all of these photos of Behati Prinsloo that are stashed in a dark room. Also, how disturbing is it to see all of the animal carcasses hanging in a room? I do not think that making them into punching bags makes it less disturbing. So it looks like the lyrics are taken both in a metaphorical and literal sense. Also, we cannot forget the blood dripping down his and his wife’s bodies. From all of the interesting material in the video, I have to admit that I cannot get it out of my head (much like the song itself). Director Samuel Bayer brought the video together. The video evokes a multitude of different emotions and is perhaps why it has gotten mixed reviews. Sure, Adam Levine will look good in anything he does, but with blood all over his body, I beg to differ.

Some critics have stated that the song objectifies women. The lyrics express that women are preyed on like meat, and let’s just say the song can bring up a heated discussion. But we all have to admit, it is a catchy tune. Moreover, at the end of the day, Maroon 5 is still very talented and creates great music. This music video has definitely created buzz for both the band and its current album. Also, how timely is the extra buzz, considering they’re getting geared up for their 2015 tour?
