It’s been a while since the last time I posted a Music Video Round-Up, but here we are back again with The Weeknd, One Direction, Kid Cudi, Rihanna and Ke$ha! All the videos will be at the bottom of this post. Here are some of my thoughts on each video:
Starting off with Kid Cudi, after the release of WZRD, which departed from his original sound, Kid Cudi is back to rapping again, this time in the video for “Just What I Am” featuring King Chip. The video, directed by Kid Cudi, is inside a gold frame to which Cudi described via Twitter “all my videos will be in a baroque frame. I create art, so it will be presented as such. ART IN MOTION“. Let me tell you the video does not dissapoint. Trippy party scene, following cameos of Steve Aoki, to all those who worried that Cudi might have been gone in alternative rock, let me tell you he is back.
The biggest boy band on Earth as of now, One Direction, released their music video for “Little Things“, a beautiful song written by Ed Sheeran. After their music video for “Live While We’re Young“, their new album Take Me Home is also taking a different direction, a more mature sound and in “Little Things” the lyrics and the melody are beyond catchy, sending the message that even a girl doesn’t love the crinkles in their eyes, squeezing in their jeans or the dimples on their back, they are perfect for them. Beautiful, beautiful song.
On the other hand, The Weeknd released his music video for “The Zone” featuring Drake. This video directed by Abel Tesfaye, that’s The Weeknd’s real name by the way, blends in artwork and also the same model from his previous mixtapes House of Balloons, Thursday,Echoes of Silence, making it a full circle just in time for the release of his debut album Trilogy. The opening and closing scenes of the obvious high eyes, a recurrent theme to most of his songs that include drugs and being numb. Can’t wait to see more videos by Abel.
Rihanna shines bright like a diamond in her music video for “Diamonds” from her upcoming album Unapologetic. One part of the video is in black and white, the other part of the video includes wild horses, shattered glass, smoke, gems and of course, diamonds. What does it all mean? Probably we’ll never know, but the video looks great either way.
Ke$ha released her music video for “Die Young“. I don’t know if the whole Illuminati thing is real or what, but this video features some heavy symbolism: triangles, upside down crosses, star of Satan, and is this some kind of cult orgy? I’ll let you watch to decide.
