Rhett Miller of Old 97’s Announces New Solo Album

Less than a year after Old 97’s released their acclaimed 10th studio album Most Messed Up, the band’s lead singer Rhett Miller has officially announced his upcoming solo album. In a Rolling Stone article published today, it was revealed that the album will be released on May 12th and, keeping in tradition with his previous album titles (The Instigator, The Believer, The Interpreter, The Dreamer), will be called The Traveler.

In contrast to the back-to-basics roots sound of Most Messed Up, not to mention the bare country production of his previous solo album The Dreamer, The Traveler will have a bluegrass sound dissimilar to Miller’s previous work. This is thanks to his collaborating with Black Prairie, a bluegrass band that features several members of The Decemberists.

Along with the album’s announcement, the lead single “Most in the Summertime”—which also features R.E.M.’s Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey—also premiered. The song can be heard on SoundCloud.
