EA Reveals First Look at ‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’

After choking out BioWare and forcing “loot boxes” into the common lexicon for all the wrong reasons, EA is starting a new apology tour with their secret weapon: lightsabers.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order — Official Reveal Trailer

The publisher allowed members of Respawn Entertainment to dish out details on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order during Day 2 of the Star Wars Celebration on Saturday. The showcase included a story trailer for the single-player adventure game which takes place after Order 66 in Revenge of the Sith. The main character, possibly named Kal, is a Jedi trainee hiding on a distance planet tearing up old starships. He keeps to himself and doesn’t trust anyone in fear of revealing his skills with the Force. But when he accidentally reveals his secret and gets involved stopping the evils of the Empire, he goes on the run and tries to rediscover his true potential.

Cameron Monaghan (Shameless, Gotham) voice Kal, who also provided his likeness for the character and spoke highly of the honor of being part of the Star Wars universe.

“It’s only every kid’s freaking dream ever to be a Jedi,” Monaghan said. “It’s really surreal, it’s amazing.”

The trailer also featured one of the main antagonists of the game. On top of the usual Stormtroopers and Purge Troopers, who wield electrical staffs when fighting in the trailer, Kal is chased through the galaxy by the Second Sister Inquisitor, a villainous servant of Darth Vader who can be seen using the Force to try to crash Kal’s spaceship. Respawn pointed out that this character was first seen in the Darth Vader spin-off comic Dark Lord of the Sith 19: Fortress Vader, Part 1.

Vince Zampella, head of Respawn, emphasized that Fallen Order is a “story game” with no multiplayer and no microtransactions. The game is described as an “action-melee” game with deep and easy combat for players. The writing for the characters and the story was credited to Matt Michnovetz, one of the writer for the popular show Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

“There’s so much work that’s gone into this, so much passion,” Zampella said. “There’s a lot more to the game that’s so good!”
