Boo New York for having a baseball game airing not one week, but two weeks in a row on The CW instead of The Originals.
Unfortunately, we can’t even send the Mikaelson’s down to the Big Apple to sort this situation out because, yet again on “Queen Death,” we see that the original family’s plans, always and forever, will be foiled.
This week, we actually had a casualty from the disastrous scheming: Elijah’s dead – oh, and Marcel might be too. Say it ain’t so! Well he’s not really dead. No one in Julie Plec’s world actually dies for good. After his run-in with Hollow-possessed Sofia, there was no other choice to transfer Elijah’s soul into a pendant after he was pricked by the rose bush and sacrificed to turn the Hollow into a flesh and blood person.
As for Marcel, we don’t really know if he will survive his encounter with the Hollow and probably won’t know until the show returns June 2. But for Elijah, we’ve seen it before from Finn being trapped in a pendant to half the cast of The Vampire Diaries being trapped in the Phoenix Stone, but this time, the sliver of what’s left of Elijah’s soul is fractured and damaged.
The sacrifice resulted in much greater consequences than Elijah’s death though; the Hollow escaped, punching her way out of an old tree trunk covered in a supernatural embryonic fluid. I have to admit that the actual appearance of the earth-shaking Hollow is not what I expected at all. When we first hear her voice chanting while killing Elijah, she sounds like a pubescent teenage girl. Even though it’s clear she has a massive amount of power (she did make the earth shake after all), she just reminds me too much of Davina, considering the similar story arcs (all that sacrificial stuff young women seem to go through in this series).
Of course, a lot of other stuff happened in this episode sans Elijah, the biggest thing being Vincent recognizing Klaus as not the fabled monster of New Orleans, but the man who finally lived up to Cami’s expectations. It was huge moment, probably one of the most important scenes in the whole season because it reminds you that Klaus really has changed from when we first met him in The Vampire Diaries.
We also had some big developments for Freya and Keelin, who I have to say are both growing on me as a power couple. They balance each other out remarkably well, and Keelin even gets the Klaus seal of approval when he’s watching her play jacks with Hope.And on that note, it’s going to be a long two weeks until The Originals is back on our small screens.
