To no one’s surprise, there’s a killer on the loose in Midnight, Texas in this week’s episode, “Blinded by the Light,” only this time it’s one of the Midnighters who has blood on their hands.
This week’s episode was all about Creek’s dysfunctional family. A group of ragtag kids is spending the night trying to vandalize Midnight when one of the young girls in the group goes missing after being ditched by her friends. Lemuel then scares the daylights out of them with his vampire ways.
Of course, the next time we see the girl (whose mom happens to be a judge from Davy), she is being chased down by the bright headlights of a murderer. So there’s a good chance that girl is as good as dead, but the Midnighters are holding out hope that she might still be alive.
Well, that hope is quickly dashed when Manfred and Creek find the body of another dead girl in the middle of the woods, and this time Manfred knows the victim – the girl’s name is Tiffany, and if you remember from a couple of weeks ago, she was the human “bloodbag” on the van owned by the vampire group that came barreling through town.
Vampires aren’t the problem this time though and it’s clear when Manfred gets that funny ghosty feeling in Creek’s house that something is going on with her insane father, who shows up drunk and punches Manfred in the face. Clearly at this point we know something very dark is going on with Creek’s father. It’s one thing to be protective of your family, but it’s another to beat up every man your daughter comes in contact with. It also doesn’t help him that poor Connor had a nasty bruise on is arm in the beginning of the episode that indicates his father’s abusiveness.
There are other problems going on in Midnight, though, shadowing the murder-mystery in this week’s episode. The veil between hell and earth that’s ever so frail in Midnight is causing Manfred to self-medicate and see more ghosts than usual; it’s also causing Fiji to be sexually harassed by a demon in her home. It turns out only three people know about this thinning veil: the Rev, Joe and Chuy, the fallen angels. The angels want this to be kept secret because, apparently, if the demons know there are fallen angels in Midnight they will certainly come. But considering they are literally already up Fiji’s skirt, that argument is pretty obsolete at this point.
With demons, killers, and the police about to rain down on Midnight, the gang has to act fast to keep the fragile peace so they do some serious hunting to find the killer and deal with the demons later.
It’s no surprise who the killer turns out to be: Creek’s father. And he even has a creepy murder shoe box under the floor boards where there’s a mask very similar to the one Aubrey’s killer was wearing in Manfred’s vision. This seals the dead, right? Well, not really.

Surprise number two: Creek’s father isn’t the killer, he’s actually a decent guy who was just out looking for the missing girl like everyone else and trying to protect his killer of a son. Connor is the murderer. He’s run off with an unknowing Creek in the truck and he’s not killing for justice, he’s killing for fun. Aubrey and Tiffany are both the victims of a teen killer.
And that’s when everyone freaks out enough that Joe reveals his wings and flies off to cover more ground in the hunt for Creek and Connor, who don’t get very far before he intercepts them along with Lemuel. It’s Lemuel who delivers the final neck-cracking blow to Connor, killing him for good.
This was a solid episode for Midnight, Texas and one of the best of the season so far because of how dark the series dared to go. Poor Creek will never be the same again and neither will her father, and that’s a good thing for Creek because the show is turning her into one of the strongest characters in the series right alongside the witch Fiji and assassin Olivia.
