Ghosted is off to a really bad start. Despite having both Adam Scott and Craig Robinson, neither of their characters stand out. Max doesn’t feel like a genius and Leroy doesn’t seem like a cop, but somehow the viewers are supposed to accept this as true. It would’ve been better if these were two random guys thrown into a crazy situation. Also, neither characters’ jokes were landing the entire episode. I didn’t even chuckle. Granted that could simply be me, but I laugh at the most stupid things, so I think it’s safe to say that the show wasn’t funny.
As for the supporting cast, they didn’t stand out either. They were pretty generic. The only reason that they weren’t completely forgettable is that they didn’t play into their stereotypes. Annie seemed to have a hard time getting that door to open, and she was surprised that they were in danger even though the two of them were heading into a dangerous situation in the first place. Ava was really nice for a director of a secret organization, and she was going to let them go without a fight. It made the bureau feel like it didn’t know what it was doing. Also, why let two strangers go on a case instead of their own agents?
The pacing of the episode was way too fast. Everything seemed to happen instantaneously, which left no room for the characters to react to what was happening. As soon as Max and Leroy arrived at the bureau, they were pretty much told that they’re needed and were sent on their way. Even their dramatic pasts were forced into the first episode, leaving no room for the two of them to earn the right for that type of information down the road.
The alien would’ve been better if it actually put up a fight, but it went down pretty easy. It was also really confusing that the man took off his head, but once the alien left his body he was somehow fine. I don’t know.
This show feels like a bunch of half ideas that someone thought would work as a show. The characters aren’t good and the pacing is way too fast for there to be any real developments. The best thing going for this show is the mystery around the alien and, of course, the cliffhanger at the end. This show needs to really improve if it’s going to make it through the season.
