Hidden immunity idols are the most powerful commodity to have in Survivor. A smart (and lucky) player knows how to use their idol. If a castaway uses it correctly, it can shake up the game. None have been used so far in Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers, but the idols in possession has started to grow. And based on the quick changing of alliances from the second episode, certain castaways might need to find an idol ASAP.
The last Tribal Council with the Heroes tribe might actually have helped Chrissy more than anyone. She has proven me wrong, and I’m extremely happy to write that. Instead of wallowing at the bottom of the totem pole, she’s using the knowledge gained from Tribal to set herself up in a great position. She could potentially be the secret mastermind of the tribe. When she used her career skills to deduce that Alan, JP and Ashley might not be the ideal partnership partner, this was her crowning moment. Sure, I like that she decided to use the powerless super idol for the future as a fake play, but her sizing up the castaways in her tribe and striking new deals was a genuine move.
Joe and Cole finding the hidden immunity idol at the Healers camp could cause problems in the future. Joe needed help to find the idol and now someone else at camp knows his secret. I like that it’s given him an ally, and Cole seems like an upfront type of person who you would want to work with in the early half of the game. However, if any disagreement occurs between them, or if the tribe wants to get Joe out, there is someone who knows the evidence and method to manipulate him. And, on the other hand, with Cole getting closer to Jessica, Joe may not want to have his new ally around to mess this up. Something could go wrong here if there isn’t trust between them.
Patrick needs to be careful at the Hustlers tribe – his days are seriously numbered. Sure, he’s a physical competitor and the Hustlers may keep him around for a few weeks for the team challenges. However, he’s becoming too much of an inconsistent player that his tribe could vote him off if he doesn’t get his act together. Ally, who is teaming up with Patrick, has sided with him for the time being, but she is a smart player. I have no doubt she will cut him if he ruins her game, just like what she did with Simone.
The only challenge of the night was typical Survivor fare. Untying knots, diving into water and a crossroads sign puzzles have been done many times before. This is the type of challenge that is meant to weed out people easily if their tribe is sent to Tribal Council. Simone failed at the puzzle portion and it put a big spotlight on her. Jessica, on the other hand, was having major trouble with untying the knots and moving the puzzles through the path. If the Healers had lost, she could’ve been a strong contender for the person getting the boot. Luckily for her, the Healers are continuing their dominance of the challenges.
Simone getting the boot isn’t surprising in the least. She wasn’t connecting with her tribe, she didn’t do well during the challenge, and she was rubbing people the wrong way. While she could’ve been used for a vote, the tribe was more focused on securing competition wins than eliminating an annoying threat (Patrick). Simone didn’t have much of a chance once Ally kept to her original plan with Patrick, and it showed on her face as the votes came. She fully expected to get voted out. Don’t get me wrong, she tried her hardest, but it felt like she threw in the towel near the end.
“I’m a Wild Banshee” kept the tide moving with another simple, and obvious, elimination. Another person was eliminated for the betterment of the group for potentially winning challenges. Even though another idol has come into play and the early onset alliances are fracturing, it’s still too early to expect (with these castaways, at least) that they’re ready to be cutthroat. Still, it’s great to see players like Chrissy and Ally step up their games with the goal of actually wanting to play AND win the game. (Looking at you, Big Brother 19 houseguests.)
