What should’ve been a quiet week on Big Brother Canada 6 was anything but. With two big floaters on the block, like Ryan and Merron, you would expect that the house would enjoy some peaceful gameplay and simply eliminate an easy pawn. However, the full moon must’ve been out or the house was too antsy because the houseguests kept jumping back and forth between which houseguest to vote out. Week five of Big Brother Canada 6 was all about making moves for later in the season and figuring out which houseguest would benefit their alliance. And that’s definitely the way to play the game… but to cause drama over floaters?!
When Erica won Head of Household, her motives became clear that she wanted a simple week. She said it herself that she didn’t want to win HOH in the first place, so sticking to a chill week fit that mentality perfectly. Ryan is the least liked houseguest currently in the game; everyone wants him gone and they know that he’s a dangerous threat because he talks to everyone and spreads lies. Merron, on the other hand, didn’t try that hard, knew how to play the game or won any challenges. He was also the perfect pawn to place on the block. Erica didn’t trust either of them, so they were the obvious targets, especially after she decided not to target Maddy.
When Johnny won the Power of Veto and the question came up about backdooring Will, he made the right decision to not use the POV. Even though he wanted Will up on the block, he couldn’t guarantee that Erica would make him the replacement. And he tried a few times to get the thought into Erica’s head; unfortunately, she was too on the fence to really give an answer. Erica could’ve nominated anyone and potentially made things worse. Johnny seemed ready to make a big move, but he didn’t have the reassurance to make the plan stick. You should never make a big move unless you know how the pieces could fall.
Merron being the one evicted made a lot of sense. He was the gate crasher, he didn’t make any strong connections (except with Hamza), and he got the title of season pawn. And, to make matters worse, he didn’t even play, or even know how to play, Big Brother! All of the houseguests knew that Merron was a bad player; he would sit by himself and not make any relationships, alliances or deals. He was clearly out of his league, especially because he never watched a single season before entering the house. The houseguests, for as much as they want strong targets out, want to work with people who know how to play the game. Merron didn’t give them any reassurance that he had their backs. He was an easy vote to get out of the way.
The challenges during the fifth week were so much fun! The drinking frat house HOH messed with all of the houseguests’ minds; they were suffering with a serious hangover when Big Brother woke them up for the competition. How did they not think they wouldn’t be asked to compete after that party? We need to see this game return – Will, Ali, Paras, and especially Olivia looked like death with their hangovers. For the POV, we got another sponsored challenge – this time with Skip The Dishes. For a surprisingly easy game, many of the houseguests faltered to even read their screens and follow the directions. Maddy was the biggest eye-opener; she failed horrifically when placing her deliveries together. And she’s supposed to be the biggest super-fan in the house!
Ali put a target on her back after her campaigning. While her alliance partner, Olivia, had been blending into the background, Ali tried to stand out more by throwing out some names. Unfortunately for her, some people took notice and didn’t like the way she reacted once she found out what Ryan said about her. Her reaction got the same effect when Jessie reacted after Hamza didn’t take him off the block – people started noticing her in a different light. She needs to take a step back and blend in a bit or else she could be shining a spotlight on her game.
“Daela” could also be in trouble too. People look to them as the strongest alliance in the house, so they’re the ones being sought after as the big move. While they have their alliances, even their friends are considering putting them on the block. Kaela and Derek need to take some time to re-evaluate their position and what move to make next; if they don’t strike first, they could be nominated against each other in a surprise blindside.
After Merron’s eviction, Arisa revealed the new twist: Canada can vote to save one of the nominees either this week or next. These weekly twists can be hit or miss, but since it’s here (and we have to deal with it), hopefully the power will be used accurately. The last thing we’d want is for someone to actually make a big move and the twist saves someone that would’ve caused drama. Or, in the worst case, the power completely goes to waste.

The fifth week of Big Brother Canada 6 was a bumpy week of changing targets and alliances. Floaters were placed on the block and the biggest question became who would be the right/easiest person to eliminate. With Merron’s eviction, the thought now comes to the jury. Merron isn’t on the jury, but who will be the first person? Starting from here is when the houseguest should start thinking of who they want to sit beside and the votes they’ll need to win. We’re in the second phase and THIS is when the game truly starts.
