Top Ten: Gossip Girl Soundtrack Songs

There are always some songs used in TV shows that capture the essence of the episode in just a couple of seconds, these songs make those specific moment speak volumes. Gossip Girl, being one of my favorite shows ever, has featured over the years some amazing music and unknown artists that I have learned to love and follow their career. I selected my top ten songs featured on the show,  expect a lot of honorable mentions at the end of the post for those that didn’t make the cut!

10. Season 1, Episode 1 “Pilot – “What Goes Around, Comes Around” by Justin Timberlake

I mean, if you get the chance to do it, how could you not start a show with Justin Timberlake’s music? This song was perfect. Serena was back. As viewers, we were clueless as to why she left and why so much commotion when she came back.

9. Season 4, Episode 7 War at the Roses – “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn

Remember that time when Chuck and Blair hated each other? “Every nerve end in my body is electrified by hatred“. This song made me download Robyn’s “Body Talk” album immediately. I mean, perfect song for make-up sex. Oh, and then there’s Serena with another boyfriend!

8. Season 1, Episode 11 “Roman Holiday”“The General Specific” by Band of Horses

Remember the good old Derena days? This song and scene captures it. Now that we’re towards the end of the show it made me miss the beginning of their relationship.

7. Season 3, Episode 10 “The Last Days of Disco Stick” – “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga
(CLICK LINK ^ TO WATCH VIDEO!)
Your favorite show has a Lady Gaga cameo? I BET YOU NOT! (unless it’s The Simpsons). Anyway, “Bad Romance” was the song for this episode when that dreadful threesome with Olivia (Hilary Duff), Dan and Vanessa happened. Talk about awkward. Plus, in the beginning of the scene when Blair is talking about how “Poker Face” is about her is priceless.

6. Season 1, Episode 18 “Much ‘I Do’ About Nothing – “The Ice Is Getting Thinner” by Death Cab for Cutie

When Chuck Bass made an impromptu speech and pretty much had every Chair fan’s heart fluttering. If we are getting our Chair wedding, I need Gossip Girl writers to look back on this moment. Sad moment for Dan and Serena, but hey, things got better right?

5. Season 4, Episode 22 “The Wrong Goodbye – “Rolling In The Deep” by Adele
(CLICK LINK ^ TO WATCH VIDEO)
It was only a matter of time until Gossip Girl used “Rolling In The Deep“. I remember when this episode aired the song was everywhere, plus after a very long time we finally got some Chuck and Blair happiness! Charlie was about to commit suicide, Vanessa found Dan’s book, this season finale seemed great but you know how Season 5 went.

4. Season 4, Episode 2 “Double Identity – “I’m In Here” by Sia

Chuck: “Your world would be easier if I didn’t come back
Blair: “That’s true, but it wouldn’t be my world without you in it
NEED I SAY MORE?
Oh wait, and then there’s Sia with her amazing vocals in this song. Damn you, Sia, for always having great songs!

3. Season 2 Episode 13 “Oh Brother, Where Bart Thou? – “Signs” by Bloc Party

Lyrics: “I see signs now all the time that your not dead your sleeping/ I believe in anything that brings you back home to me”
On one hand you have Eleanor Waldorf getting married, on the other you have Chuck having an almost breakdown. The embrace at the end of the scene means everything because when it comes to Chuck and Blair, they love each other, they fight, they break-up, they hate each other but at the end of the day they’re always there when they need each other the most.

2. Season 1, Episode 7 “Victor, Vitrola – “With Me” by Sum 41

The scene that started it all. But to be honest, even before the iconic limo ride scene, I must say that “Stripper” by Sohodolls deserves an honorary mention here at the number 2 spot!

1. Season 3, Episode 11 “The Treasure of Serena Madre – “Watcha Say” by Jason Derulo

This song, this scene is basically Gossip Girl in a nutshell. Thanksgiving, drama, scheming, oh yes, this is what Gossip Girl is all about. And of course, there is Jason Derulo asking what did you say at the perfect time.
