Concert Review: The Weeknd-The Fall Tour at The Fillmore

By: Melissa Berne

The Weeknd takes you into his ‘House of Balloons’ quite literally on The Fall Tour. The venue’s floor was filled with countless black balloons with his famous ‘XO’ sign on them.

On October 17th, despite being sick, Abel took the stage at The Fillmore on Miami Beach. His vocals were, surprisingly, on point. It’s not that I don’t have faith in Mr. Tesfaye’s talents, but his voice sounds so good on the tracks of his mix tapes that I thought, “wait, he can’t sound this good live.” But I had nothing to worry about. Abel delivered.

The atmosphere around his show is set up nicely with the stage lights going out and the screens turning off at some points. Bringing the elusive essence of The Weeknd to life.

He did a great job of performing fan favorites from each mix tape (House of Balloons, Thursday, Echoes of Silence) with songs like ‘What You Need,‘ which the crowd went wild for, ‘The Zone,‘ ‘Outside‘ and ‘Crew Love’ off of Drake’s Take Care album.

What’s interesting about The Weeknd as a performer is that he is a male R&B artist that drives the girls wild with just his voice. In an age when almost every artist has background dancers for support, The Weeknd gets the crowd hyped with his emotionally-charged songs, and his sensual vocals.

All in all, The Weeknd gave a fine performance and I am looking forward to his next tour. Here’s hoping he and Drake tour together. It’s a no-brainer, no?
