Young Sheldon is back for its second season, bringing with it a second round of laughter. But most importantly, this season will be bringing life lessons for the young genius to learn.
After ripping the refrigerator apart because it was making a noise only he could hear, little Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) put the family out hundreds of dollars. Because of that, Sheldon became the neighborhood paperboy to pay his dad back, something he wasn’t exactly thrilled to be doing.
Now, this might sound like an easy job for Sheldon, but what’s easy for everyone else is anything but for him. Sheldon quickly realized that hard labor is actually hard. After a week of delivering papers through the early mornings and wind storms, Sheldon had had enough and exploded on his family during dinner. When his dad came to talk to him and explained that he can’t unload on people like that, Sheldon took the lesson to heart.
The thing about Young Sheldon is that it not only brings the viewers into the world of a genius many have come to love over the last ten years on The Big Bang Theory, but it also teaches us empathy and understanding. Something that Sheldon is constantly learning about. This lesson may have stuck for this episode, but Sheldon continuously has to learn these lessons throughout his life and into his adulthood.
Sheldon’s lesson was one that many people have to learn at some point. He learned that just because you’re having a hard or bad day, it’s not fair to those you love for you to take it out on them. It was a lesson that older Sheldon (Jim Parsons) says in a voice over he has kept with him the rest of his adulthood. Of course there’s a joke in there that he never overreacts around his friends and family because every Sheldon fan knows that is simply not true.
Speaking of older Sheldon, with Big Bang Theory coming to an end and the success of Young Sheldon, it is nice to know the lovable and slightly pretentious character will remain in viewers’ lives. From the first season and the premiere of season two, Iain Armitage has proven that he is able to keep the spirit of Sheldon Cooper alive for what will probably be many more seasons to come.
