Music Review: “18 Months” by Calvin Harris

One of house music’s greatest is releasing his 3rd album, 18 Months, and we’ve gotten out hands on it early!  Scottish DJ, Calvin Harris, is not letting us down with this album. Not only are his signature vibrant beats featured in this album, but he also brings some hip-hop flare.

Harris was brought to the map by everyone’s  favorite “bad girl” Rihanna. They both collaborated in ‘Where Have You Been’ and the big summer hit ‘We Found Love,’ which is also featured in 18 Months. Harris made the decision of putting old top hits such as, Bounce, Feel So Close, and Awooga in this new album. A decision I find great, because it will allow his new fans to get acquainted with his old music. I have been a fan of Harris for a while now, and he always seems to amaze me by bringing something so different, striking and outlandish.

The Album starts with a mellow, almost sensual, beat called Green Valley. The feel and rhythm of the album changes completely once Mansion plays, this sort of “Daft Punk” futuristic tempo. Harris’ latest project includes big names; Kelis, Ellie Goulding, Tinie Tempah, and the queen of vocals: Florence Welch. This Album is the perfect combination of cutting edge beats to slow tempo jams. Meaning this will be something true House Music lovers and general public will enjoy. Make sure to get 18 Months, out in stores October 30th!
