Film Review: Bradley Cooper is ‘Limitless’

If Limitless was in 3D, it would convince the audience that they were all tripping on the same drug Bradley Cooper is on. The movie is like one big ride, and is sort of filmed that way. I found it to be enjoyable and interesting.

Bradley Cooper plays Eddie Mora, a writer going through a bad funk. He’s a mess and has terrible writer’s block. When he bumps into an old acquaintance, he’s offered a pill that would open his mind and give him super human abilities. His desperation leads him to taking the pill, in which right away, he sees how amazing the drug is. He soon becomes addicted. He cleans himself up, finishes his book, and goes into the stock market. However, the side effects of the drug start weighing on him, and he needs to find a way to balance it out before it kills him.

From the opening credits, you see how Berger stylized this movie. It’s like you’re zooming through New York City. It’s really cool to look at, and he does it throughout the movie to show you how it may feel and look to be on the drug. It’s effective. It almost gave me the same adrenaline rush Cooper’s character was feeling.

The story was solid; you see this man go from nothing to being almost God-like to completely crashing down from his high. Bradley Cooper really pulled that off and made the story interesting. I still think that the film got a little slow toward the middle-end. It was one thing after another; when you thought it was over, something else happened. But overall, it was fast paced, which perfectly fit the theme of the movie.

I was a little annoyed with Abbie Cornish’s character. She played Eddie’s girlfriend, who breaks up with him in the beginning but comes back after the drug transforms him. For someone who loves him, you think she’d want to stick it out with him for better or for worse. Cooper and Robert De Niro have good chemistry with each other, and their scenes together were some of the best in the film. Also, Gossip Girl fans, Robert John Burke (aka Bart Bass) plays alongside De Niro as someone very much like Bart Bass. lol

Limitless is a good movie. (Not my favorite for this weekend, that goes to Lincoln Lawyer.) Bradley Cooper and his bright blues eyes shine in this movie. If you’re headed to the theater this weekend, this is definitely a movie to consider.

Limitless is now playing in theaters.
