Someone call an exorcist because there’s a poltergeist running around Nancy Drew’s Horseshoe Bay. The dearly departed Tiffany Hudson is pissed off and she is seeking her revenge on the people who wronged her. Unfortunately, George – who had to be sleeping with Tiffany’s husband – is one such person. And after the cliffhanger of “The Haunted Ring,” she’s the current inhabitant of Tiffany’s spirit. “The Curse of the Wayward Spirit” focused on resolving the big cliffhangers the spirits dished out the week prior.
Vengeful Tiffany didn’t let any of her time go to waste. Between leaving bloody “I Know!” messages on bathroom mirrors and arriving in couture ready to slice and dice Ryan, Tiffany made it known that she knew all and wanted to get her revenge. It’s a shame that in her final moments possessing George’s body she didn’t reveal who killed her, but Nancy Drew is a murder mystery TV series, so the show obviously wouldn’t have given that away. Though, the twist of her not realizing that she was dead was a convenient and lazy plot device. Like, seriously, the biggest piece of evidence they needed they couldn’t get because she didn’t remember her death? Very suspect.
The possession did pose a lot of questions about Tiffany’s backstory before she died. How long had she known about Ryan’s affair with George? If she knew, why didn’t she do anything about it? She clearly was mad at both George and Ryan for the affair. Also, could her investigation into the Hudsons’ shady dealings be the reason why she was killed? Her computer folder had a lot of files in them – she did lots of digging, so whatever is in those folders, it must be a huge smoking gun.
Side-note: I rolled my eyes so hard at Nick after he unlocked the computer files. “Dantes” is not a common password that would’ve been easy to guess, regardless of his many meetings with Tiffany. Contrary to his bragging to Ace, he wouldn’t have gotten the password. Between his criticizing of Laura and his jealous possession of Nancy, his flaws came out. Your toxic masculinity is showing, Nick.
A closer look into George’s home life sheds a lot of light into why she’s built a tough exterior. Her mother may be the psychic and making some income, but it was clear that George ran the house, brought in the money, and made sure things kept going smoothly. If George had to remind her to not steal money from her little daughter, you know that she’s had a rocky past with her that we hadn’t seen. It’s great that her mother stepped up to help exorcise Tiffany’s spirit; without her, Tiffany would’ve killed George. However, she shouldn’t chastise George for any of her mistakes. Hopefully, they can take some time to work on their issues and get everything out in the open.
Is Lisbeth with the FBI or is she a driver for the Hudsons? Nancy Drew couldn’t have retconned that little detail so soon since her introduction. There’s something off about her character; unless she did private security and driving on the side? Bess should be a little cautious as they start their early dating phase, but it’s great that she’s feeling comfortable enough to open up to someone. A baby step can do wonders, especially when it’s not something she’s used to in her life.
Owen Marvin left me speechless. He’s that tall, dark, and handsome type that you know is bad for you and probably has a few dirty skeletons in the closet, but you hope for the better. He’s playing the nice guy right now and clearly into Nancy, but he could be shady like Ryan, especially after Tiffany’s files were revealed. Friend or foe? Too early to tell, but let’s cross our fingers her ends up in the former.
Regarding Lucy Sable’s case, the introduction of the underground party could be the plot that exposes the dark secrets of the town. Something that nefarious and ultra-exclusive must have a terrible secret that changed Lucy’s life forever – Karen basically admitted to the same line of thinking. But, what “The Curse of the Wayward Spirit” did best firmly connected Lucy’s story the main story of Tiffany. It’s still too early to deduce if Tiffany died because she found out about Lucy, but connecting Ryan as a main piece of the puzzle was a great reveal, especially since he was the most suspicious person from the main case anyway. Ryan could have the answers we need as to what happened to Lucy.

“The Curse of the Wayward Spirit” tied up the loose ends of the twists that were revealed last week in a satisfying manner. Tiffany got some peace from her spectral torment, and we got peace of mind knowing one vengeful spirit is now out of the picture. The grander web is still forming and players are emerging as potential big suspects, but these cases cemented more of a deeper connection and friendship between the main five teens. And isn’t that the best news of all?
