This is definitely my most current, favorite reality show. This is a show that, honestly, no one cannot like.
The TV series was inspired by the very real documentary in 2010, “Catfish: The Movie.”
In the documentary, a guy named Nev was talking to a girl, Megan, for quite some time online. Nev fell in love with Megan; she was beautiful, smart and understanding. He made a plan to meet up with her. However, when the day came, Nev knocked on Megan’s door and learned her name was actually Angela.
People aren’t who they say they are.
Fortunately, for Nev, he became friends with Angela. He was heartbroken. Funny enough, his brother and his filming partner recorded the entire story and made it into a documentary; it became very popular. Once people saw the documentary, Nev received thousands of emails. It seemed like everyone wanted to tell him, his or her similar story.
So, Nev proposed to make a show out of it. He wants to travel around the country to meet these people who have online romances and want to meet their cyber-lover.
I truly think the show is genius. You never know what to expect. Literally, each person he works with has a totally different story than the next person. Sometimes the end result is good and happy, and sometimes the person literally wants to punch themselves that they spent 10 years on an online relationship that was based on a lie.

One time, there was a girl who was speaking to this guy for several months, and when the time came for them to meet up, it turns up that the guy was actually a girl.
The last ten minutes of the episode is really what makes the show interesting: is the cyber-lover for real or a lie?
People are embarrassed of themselves, which is what a lot of the liars claim. They felt this deep connection with the person on the other end and was afraid to admit their true identity. They felt it was already too late in the game to start unveiling who they truly are. I mean, it makes perfect sense. Yet, on the other hand, they are giving the person, on the other end, a persona that does not exist.
There was one time a guy, who pretended to be a male model, claimed that he only had two children. Turns out, the guy is obese and has four children, but, he claims, every word he said to his cyber-lover, was true and honest; you can’t make up feelings, and you can’t make up a connection.

The cyber world these days are scary. People are talking to strangers. It is the technology that, I believe, is tearing the world apart. Whether it be Facebook or texting someone. It is hard to believe, but exactly 20 years ago, texting was first invented. Believe it or not, it was only eight years ago that Facebook was invented. People are now texting at the dinner table and checking their Facebook posts while on a romantic date. The world is evolving with the technology. Our everyday lives are now encircled by technology. We wake up, check Facebook, we get dressed, check Instagram, we brush our teeth, and text a friend.
How to stop such nonsense? I guess it’s too late in the game to even attempt that kind of problem.
