TV Show Review: ‘Gossip Girl’ Season 4 Finale

Gaby’s thoughts: If you follow my personal twitter, then you know that I have a slight obsession with Gossip Girl. I go around telling people it’s the best show ever. Most think I’m being funny or joking. Well, I kind of do mean it. Imagine if we had the Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc. during the Friends era. This type of active interaction is what really got me into Gossip Girl. And I love the irony of it. Some anonymous person is blogging about these characters’ lives on the show, and we’re doing the exact same thing. Therefore, Gossip Girl can throw anything at me, bad plot, actors, characters, etc. and I’ll still love that damn show.

Tonight’s season finale wasn’t the best at giving the audience what we wanted. A lot of drama went down, and I was much more vocal with my live-tweeting than I usually am. As last week’s episode left us, Blair was taken hostage by Thorpe, as revenge for Chuck telling his daughter (even though it was Nate who blabbed) that he killed her mother. I was expecting the hostage situation to take up most of the episode; so I was surprised when the situation was solved in the first 15 minutes. Oh no, that means more drama is on the way.

Blair and Chuck have one last night together. At the end, they realize that they can never love anyone like each other. So you know that means, right? Chuck tells Blair that she deserves the “fairy tale” and should marry the Prince. [Insert eye-roll here.] Really, Chuck? I swear Blair and Chuck may be masterminds at mischief but they’re completely idiotic when it comes to love. All this means is that we’ll be spending next season watching and waiting for Blair and Chuck get back together again.

As for Serena’s cousin, Charlie, let’s just say I’m surprised by who she turned out to be at the end. For the past episodes, I hated Charlie; she was like a super dumbed down version of ignorant Serena with mental issues. Well, after I found out how she played the Upper East Siders; I’m more intrigued with her character, especially if she teams up with the wicked Georgina next season.

Vanessa…Vanessa. I hope she enjoys Barcelona, Spain… and the checks from Dan’s book that she sent to a publisher without his knowledge. Vanessa won’t be a recurring character next season. I’ll assume that this book ordeal won’t be played-out for several episodes. But to be honest, I’m glad she turned in Dan’s book. Dan is terribly self-righteous, and she had a point about telling him that he needs to man up. Next season, he’s going to have to when that book gets out.

As for Serena, I’m still laughing. First, a cameo from David O. Russell? How random…and weird. (If you don’t know who David O. Russell is, he was the Oscar nominated director for The Fighter.) Then, it got even weirder. He asked Serena to adapt a book into a script for him. Wow. Okay, seeing it’s David O. Russell, not terribly too surprised, but still SERENA VAN DER WOODSEN?! It’s just too ridiculous.

Finally, I would like to thank the writers for leaving us with that camera focus of a positive pregnancy test in Blair and Serena’s bathroom. OMG someone’s pregnant?! All I got to say is: Bullshit! No one’s pregnant. This isn’t One Tree Hill. It was a mistake, just some pointless, out of context drama that will be resolved quickly. They just wanted to leave the audience with a cliffhanger. I refuse to fall for such manipulation.

Overall, I look forward to the next season. Yet, in this case, I hope it’s the last. I want the show to end on their terms, not because the network had it canceled. Plus, it feels like it should come to an end soon. Most of the actors, especially Blake Lively, are doing well outside of the show. Talk from some of the actors about leaving the show has been going around. It would just be really smart of the producers to end it at Season 5. No doubt, I’ll miss the show once it ends, and tweeting/texting my friends about it. Nonetheless, even the “best show ever” needs to end too. (P.S. Awesome seeing the Airborne Toxic Event performing on the show!)

Lucy’s thoughts: I livetweet Gossip Girl with Gaby lol (sorry followers!) and now that you mention it, the world would have been a better place if we had Twitter during Friends! *wipes off tear* anyways… continuing with the tear talk..
Chuck and Blair… WHY? WHY? You two are the reason why I’ve invested so much of my time into this series, I just need you two to realize that you deserve each other, forget fairy tales and everything else! *sigh* I just need some happy Chair at this point, hopefully next season I will.

On the other hand, I’m glad that Georgina is back! She always brings on the drama and I just love it! Who knows what she has in mind now that she’ll be teaming up with ‘Charlie’ or whatever her name is and what they’ll do.

As for Dan, boy…you better get ready for what’s coming after you. But I do feel bad that all of his money is going to Vanessa!! Grr! Who could NOT pick any other city besides Barcelona?? REALLY? *smh* anyways, its about time for Lonely Boy to come out and say what he thinks of his life outside of Brooklyn.

Serena a scriptwriter? [Insert laugh here] this girl has chosen more career paths than anybody else, but okay, good luck to her in whatever she does! As for the pregnancy test, who knows if Serena hooked up with Nate at the party? What if its Chuck and Blair’s baby? Regardless of whose baby it is, I really REALLY hope none of them are pregnant, that its all a mistake etc we do not need babies on the Upper East Side… not yet.

Meanwhile, I’m happy that Raina’s character left, which means we get the Nate and Chuck from season 1, can’t wait for the new season to start and see what these boys were doing their whole summer.

Gossip Girl you will be missed, but I shall celebrate your return!

PS: Gaby..it is the best show ever. lol

Gossip Girl airs at 9pm EST/8pm CST on The CW
