Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. Hal’s a pilot with a reckless attitude. When a purple alien lands wounded on Earth, he must pass on the ring of the Green Lantern to someone new. The ring chooses Hal, and his journey begins with understanding his new powers and accepting his new responsibilities.
There’s a lot of sci-fi mixed into the story, and they made easy to understand. They just failed to make it more interesting. I love sci-fi, and there were some cool elements to CGI world of the green lanterns. I really liked their abilities, the way they can wield energy and make whatever they imagine. It was during those action scenes that I became absorbed into the film. I think this is the only time I will complain that there wasn’t enough action in a movie.
My want of more action (which is completely odd for me, by the way) stems from the lack of romantic chemistry between Reynolds and Blake Lively. That romantic coupling just fell flat. Reynolds and Lively are not to blame, separately both are pretty good actors. Peter Sarsgaard, Angela Bassett, Mark Strong and Tim Robbins also star. All great actors stuck to work with not the best material.
I went to see Green Lantern with low expectations and those expectations were met. My friend, who is a fan of the comic, was disappointed with the film too, but she didn’t hate it. My brother was bored out of his mind. The audience in general seemed to agree that it wasn’t as great as they hoped. I don’t recommend seeing Green Lantern in theaters, especially not in 3D. However, if you do want to see it, I strongly suggest you just wait a couple months to rent it on DVD.
Green Lantern will release into theaters tomorrow, June 17th.
