Anyway, Crazy, Stupid, Love is a great romantic dramedy. I refrain from calling it a complete rom-com because it isn’t all laughs. It contains some dramatic and touching moments. But don’t worry, there are many laughs. Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell are a hilarious duo; essentially the best part of this film is watching them. Emma Stone plays a smart, but cautious girl who denies advances from Gosling’s character. Julianne Moore plays Carell’s wife, who cheats on him with Kevin Bacon’s character. It’s hard to pull off a cheating wife and make her likeable. Somehow, Moore manages to do that. All the main characters in this film are likeable, and that’s what the movie gets right. There’s no clear villain. Any drama or trouble the characters get into is their own fault, and the movie recognizes that.
The dialogue is funny and well-executed. Gosling knows how to deliver a line or make a funny moment even funnier. Carell is great and we know what to expect from him. Stone has proved that she has great comedic timing, and while her character is a bit more serious than her previous ones, she still does well. There are many great scenes in the film, but my favorite has to be one between Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. It’s so adorable and funny. And I feel like such a girl by pointing that scene out, but hey, I am a girl and I just really loved that scene.
I recommend this movie to anyone looking for a fun, romantic comedy. There are so many surprising funny moments; it’s hard not to spoil them all. So I won’t spoil them because you should just go see it.
Crazy, Stupid, Love will release into theaters tomorrow, July 29th.
