Walt is put on the back burner during this week’s Breaking Bad. Episode 10 “Buried” was filled with much more tension involving Hank, Marie and Skyler. We start off with witnessing an elderly gentleman making his way to his car when he notices that there is something in his driveway. A wad of cash, that came seemingly out of nowhere, is resting upon his driveway. The man is shocked to find this amount of money, checking around the neighborhood he finds that there are more stacks of cash scattered around. He follows the money trial down to a nearby park where he spies an abandoned car with a bag of money inside. Looking around, the man watches as Jesse spins around on a merry-go-round. Jesse seems to be unaware of the man and his environment in general as he lies on his back and watches the night sky.
After the confrontational meeting with Hank, Walt gets out of the garage and jumps into his car like a bat out of hell. He rapidly dials Skyler at the car wash but learns that Skyler is already on the phone with somebody. Looking back Walt sees Hank with his own phone up to his ear. Walt realizes that Hank had managed to reach Skyler first putting him into a panic.
Skyler meets Hank at a restaurant were Hank immediately starts talking about Walt and how he is a monster that must be stopped. This is a complete 180° from how Hank used to think about Walt. Hank thinks that Skyler is being threatened by Walt to play along with his criminal behavior. He wants Skyler to leave her house and move into his house with the kids. He lays down a recorder and asks Skyler to make a statement about the situation she is in. Skyler gets out of saying anything incriminating. During the exchange, Hank lets it slip that Walt’s cancer is back which was unbeknownst to Skyler. She starts to bring up calling a lawyer to be present but Hank is entirely against that the plan. He begins to try to scare and manipulate Skyler into ratting on Walt. It seems he and Walt are a lot alike when it comes to manipulation, they are two sides of one coin. Skyler, overwhelmed by what she was hearing begins to have another tremendous freak-out. These freak-outs are basically her trademark calling card and they’re very effective. She manages to shake off Hank and leave the restaurant while Hank is completely dumbfounded over what had just happened.
While Skyler is meeting with Hank, Walt is hankered down in Saul Goodman’s office. Saul has been continuously trying to reach Jesse to no avail. Walt receives a call from Skyler but is advised by Saul not to answer it. Thinking that Skyler is helping Hank, Walt heeds Saul’s advice and doesn’t answer. Saul makes the suggestion that they should get rid of Hank. Walt refuses to do so because Hank is family; strange morals for a man who willingly poisoned a child. Saul’s henchmen arrive with a van full of barrels of money. It is the money Skyler had kept in the storage locker. Walt takes the money van and drives off to the boonies where he begins digging a massive hole to bury all the money.
Skyler is trying to get a hold of Walt and Saul but neither one is answering because they think she’s working with Hank. Marie shows up to the house with Hank in tow. Skyler refuses to allow Hank inside so Marie steps inside alone and joins her in the bedroom. She can’t make any sense over what Hank had told her and wants Skyler to tell her the truth. The distraught look on Skyler’s face tips Marie off that Skyler has known about Walt for far longer than what Hank thinks. While Marie is figuring it all out, Skyler has a breakdown and starts sobbing. When Marie realizes that Skyler and Walt were the reason Hank was attacked by the assassin cousins she slaps Skyler. Fleeing the room, Marie picks up Holly and tries to leave the house with the baby only to be stopped by Skyler. The sisters begin to bicker and Marie yells for Hank to come in and help her. The bickering reaches a boiling point when Hank yells for Marie to leave Holly behind. The two leave to their car where Marie tells Hank that he has to catch Walt. Hank doesn’t respond to Marie’s wish
Walt continues to work under the hot sun for hours burying the many barrels full of money. He plants a bush to mark where the money is buried and figures out the coordinates to the exact location. Exhausted, Walt returns home where he places a lottery ticket with the coordinates onto the fridge, hoping that should something happen to him Skyler would use the ticket to find the money. Walt goes to take a shower and Skyler shadows his every move realizing that he was off doing She tells him that she didn’t help Hank but before anything else can be said Walt passes out. When he comes to the pair have a conversation over the return of Walt’s cancer and Hank’s discovery. Walt admits for the first time that his own hubris was his downfall and he’s ready to turn himself in for his crimes. The conversation helped humanize Walt a bit. He’s still a terrible person who’s done some unspeakable crimes but there was a glimmer of the old Walt hidden in his speech. Skyler informs Walt that Hank has no real evidence to convict, or even arrest Walt. She advises him not to turn himself in or else the police and the government will take the money away.
Lydia visits the meth manufacturers who took over for Walt to discuss the inferior product they’re producing. They’re losing money because the meth is not the same quality as the one Walt made and Lydia’s Czech buyers are not happy about it. Lydia views their shoddy underground lab and raises concerns over it. The new manufacturers don’t take anything she says to heart and basically blow her off. It’s then that Lydia does something with her phone we later learn that she set off an ambush by Todd, his uncle and the rest of their crew. Gunfire is heard on the surface and Lydia hides out until it’s over. When the coast is clear we see Todd telling Lydia that the coast is clear. All of the old crew have been shot down. He help guide Lydia to her car, hers are covering her eyes because she’s too scared to see all the dead bodies. It’s morbidly humorous that the woman who basically ordered to have all these people killed can’t even stand to look at her handiwork.
At Hank’s house, he and Marie are discussing whether or not Hank should inform his co-workers that his own brother-in-law is Heisenberg. Hank doesn’t want to yet because he believes that they will fire him for not figuring it out sooner. He wants to find the one final piece that will pull everything together and incriminate Walt as the elusive Heisenberg. He wants the capture of the real Heisenberg to be his last big hurrah before the DEA fires him. Marie cautions that if he waits to long, the DEA might catch Walt without Hank, and what would happen to him then?

Hank goes to work and tries to set up a meeting with the rest of the guys. It’s implied that he is going to tell them everything he knows about Walt. But before he can set up the meeting, Gomez informs him that Jesse Pinkman has been arrested and says that Jesse was throwing money all over Albuquerque. Intrigued and reminded of all the bad blood between them Hank goes down to where Jesse is being interrogated. Neither of the cops in the room with Jesse are having any luck getting him to talk. Jesse looks completely dead to the world and is not paying attention to what the police are saying to him. Hank asks the cops if he could take a crack at him seeing as the pair have history together. The cops agree and Hank enters the room alone to talk to the final piece of the Heisenberg puzzle.
This episode was much more about the aftermath of Hank and Walt’s confrontation. Walt’s choices have affected many lives; this episode was for the viewers to see the effect of those choices and how they’re playing out in other people’s lives.
