Krewella might be a new name for some, but this electronic trio has been around long enough to have a dedicated fan base. Blossoming in 2012 out of Chicago, the group took the electronic stage by storm. Before even releasing an album they have performed in venues all over the world, going as far as headlining the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Florida. The group is composed of sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf (vocals) and Kris Trindl (producer), also known as Rain Main. Krewella’s first two EPs, ‘Play Hard’ and ‘Play Harder’ did well, with their song Alive charting at 32 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their first album, ‘Get Wet’, will be released on Tuesday, September 24.
As a Krewella fan, I can say that I had extremely high hopes for their debut record. Thankfully after listening to all eleven songs I can say that my expectations were very much met. Three of the album’s songs (Come & Get it, Alive, and Killin’ It) are more or less the exact same songs which were released on the group’s first two EPs. These are all songs that propelled them into the spotlight and they’re as good now as they were then.
The first single from the album is ‘Live for the Night’ which dropped earlier this year. It embraces the group’s familiar party feel, built on upbeat melodies and deep electronic riffs. The same can be said of the song ‘We Go Down,’ released early for those who preordered the album. Both songs are definitely staples of ‘Get Wet.’
Jahan and Yasmine’s dynamic and moving melodies is really what make the album for me. The contrast between the vocals and the hard electronic choruses compliment one another perfectly. Their talent becomes especially evident in songs like ‘Enjoy The Ride’ and in ‘Human,’ one of my favorite tracks on the album. The fact that Krewella create songs with such varying tempo and mood while still staying true to their unique style is definitely impressive.
‘Get Wet’ also has a harder side however. One of the standout tracks is without a doubt ‘Dancing With The Devil,’ featuring Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy and Travis Barker of Blink-182. Fans of either veteran performer will likely be pleased with the collaboration. ‘Ring of Fire’ is one of those songs whose main chorus will get stuck in your head for days. It, like many of the other songs from ‘Get Wet,’ should strike a chord in the hearts of partiers, rebels, and college students everywhere.

Krewella is also known for their lyrics, to the point that many of their diehard fans have tattoos of their favorite songs. The rising movement of electronic dance music is made up of millions of young adults whose lives thrive on, depend upon, and revolve around music. For them lyrics are more than just words; they are a key to expressing themselves and connecting with others. Two songs off the album, ‘Pass The Love Around’ and ‘We Are One,’ have fantastic lyrics that will surely ring true for fans of Krewella’s lyricism. I’m willing to bet that ‘Pass The Love Around’ will no doubt be receiving some radio play in the near future.

It’s hard to pick favorites when the entire set is right on par. Nevertheless my top 5 are listed below, to which I highly recommend you give a listen. The only downside to ‘Get Wet’ is that it left me wanting more. The album only has 7 unreleased songs without counting the bonus tracks received when you purchase the album from iTunes and the free release ‘This Is Not The End.’ All in all, Krewella has crafted an album that will undoubtedly please their longtime fans while still helping them break into the mainstream.
