Hollywood has brought out another typical romantic comedy with “Life As We Know It.” However, it was not as excruciating to watch as other romantic comedies can usually be.
In “Life,” Holly (Katherine Heigl) and Messer (Josh Duhamel) do not get along. However, they are always in each other’s presence because they are close friends with The Novaks. After a terrible accident, the Novaks die and leave their one year old baby in the care of Holly and Messer. Much to their dismay, Holly and Messer accept the responsibility and try to work with the baby and each other. I bet you can already tell me what happens next.
Heigl plays Holly well. But that is hardly surprising since Holly is pretty much the same as all the previous characters Heigl has played. Josh Duhamel plays stereotypical playboy with charm.
So why wasn’t this movie that bad? Mostly because of the baby. Babies make everyone smile and forget about predictable plots and jokes. And Hollywood knows this.
One thing though that I have to commend the movie on is its message on parenting. Parenting is not easy or as glorified as some people make it out to be. It has its great moments and tough ones. Sacrifices need to be made. I know that one thing I learned from this movie is that I do not want to have kids before I’m ready. (So use birth control young folks!)
PSA aside… See this movie only if you really like babies or the main two actors. Otherwise, save yourself the 112 minutes.
