Unsung Artists: Sam Smith

I have a hard time labeling Sam Smith as “Unsung.” Sure, here at TYF we use the term unsung lightly: we usually use the Unsung Artists column to rant and rave about our favorite artists who have yet to hit the mainstream radio success and billions of fans they deserve. In that regard, Sam Smith is very unsung. But, Smith is also on the rise. Yet to release a debut full-length album, Smith has already gained followers and fans by performing around the globe, and they most recently took the American stage with a stint on Saturday Night Live.

If you missed Smith’s amazing SNL, no fear. Below is Smith’s second performance for the night, “Lay Me Down.” It’s objectively one of the best performances SNL has seen in awhile.

Can you feel the soul?

Sam Smith is a 21-year-old, British young folk. Their debut album, In the Lonely Hour is set to release around late May. Fans are hoping to hear the same soulful voice mused with a more modern, techno, dance-vibe. The newest single from the album, “Stay With Me,” promises such.
