Then, Landon takes a nasty fall and gets amnesia. Suddenly, he’s stuck in the past—literally. His most recent memory is of last summer, when he and Mack were still together, so now he’s calling her pet names and hanging all over her. It’s the perfect chance for revenge. The plan is simple: keep Landon at arm’s length, manipulate him so he’s the one falling love, and then BAM, dump him. There’s just one problem: Mack can’t fall for Landon all over again.
The If Only romance line is all about wanting what you can’t have, and Mandy Hubbard’s hilarious break-up/love story is sure to captivate anyone who has ever wished for a second shot at love.
I am totally loving this line of If Only… books that Bloomsbury is releasing. I’ve already had the pleasure of reading and reviewing Wish You Were Italian and it so happened to be one of the cutest YA’s of 2014. And I’ve read many. Too many for this early on out in the year. *laughs timidly*
Just as well, Fool Me Twice has the same heartfelt, homey feel that Wish You Were Italian gives us, only there are cute horses. And we all love horses. Who doesn’t? And hot guys who ride them? Hello, yes, please, I’d like to sign up right now. This dude also still thinks we’re dating after we most definitely called things off a year ago? Yes, go, take my money. Fool Me Twice‘s story line was smart and outright hilarious, at best. As you can tell, I was very okay with the circumstances, anyways.
I liked the idea of the boy with a southern twang being the jerk rather than the gullible nice guy and Mandy did a fantastic job mastering that. Landon was rough, tough, and would make a really hot hay thrower but who’s even thinking of that sort of thing? Not me, that’s for sure. Getting to know the depths of his being was enlightening and I loved the friendship him and Mack had. Who is also an awesome main character. Her sense of style and personality made her way individual in the typical YA strand and I felt she was much more relatable to regular girls her age as opposed to others. Also, Mack is a pretty cool name because it isn’t gender-identifying and I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone named Mackenzie so plus one here. Her spunk and sarcasm had me laughing out loud all throughout the novel and that’s what makes the most enjoyable reads for me. Adam and Bailey were adorable and I’d love to see something like a small novella about them sometime in the future. I loved whenever Adam-the-handy-man showed up. He made a big part of the novel for me.
While I loved the summer camp with obligatory horses set-up, I will say that it’s been done before so in this case I wasn’t too impressed, though the setting most definitely fit the feel of the novel and it couldn’t have been done this well any other way.
Anyone looking for a light summer read that’s sure to please fans of happily-ever-afters will be vying for what’s to come next of the If Only… line.
