Movie News: Trailer #2 Debuts for ‘The Maze Runner’

Let me preface this with two main points that I cannot stress enough:

1. I wasn’t a fan of the book.

2. We’ve all been burned by certain Young Adult adaptations that didn’t quite meet our expectations.

These two reasons are why I’d completely understand if you saw the title of the movie, the book it’s attached to, and just rolled your eyes. However, like The Hunger Games but on a much smaller scale, The Maze Runner is a story that seems like it will translate on screen better than it did on paper, and watching the trailer you can’t help but feel a nudge of excitement.

Starring Dylan O’Brien (Teen Wolf) as the lead character Thomas and based on the best selling novel by author James Dashner, the trailer asks a lot of questions that aren’t ready to be answered but also gives us a good look at the mood of the film. While certainly not aimed at adults, it also isn’t pandering to kids. Director Wes Ball has mentioned in past interviews that he was inspired by books such as Lord of the Flies and movies such as Jurassic Park, and if this film touches even an ounce of the spirit of the latter, we could have a really cool film on our hands.

The movie is out September 19th – check out the official synopsis and trailer #2 below.

When Thomas (O’Brien) wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys, he has no memory of the outside world other than strange dreams about a mysterious organization known as W.C.K.D. Only by piecing together fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze can Thomas hope to uncover his true purpose and a way to escape. Based on the best-selling novel by James Dashner.
