Film News: Director Patty Jenkins Quits ‘Thor 2′

Director Patty Jenkins is leaving ‘Thor 2′. Filming on the sequel to Kenneth Branagh’s box office hit was set to begin in September 2012 but with Jenkins leaving the project, Marvel will have to scramble to find a worthy director to take her place.

Deadline reports that Jenkins decided to leave the project due to “creative differences”. They are also stating that they believe Jenkins will likely end up working on another superhero film. Perhaps it was Marvel rather than Jenkins who had the “creative differences”? We may never know, but we do know that the new director will have a great task ahead of them to match (or beat) the $448 million revenue that Thor earned this year.

Many Thor fans were disappointed when Jenkins was appointed the directors seat. Perhaps this time they will come up with a choice that pleases the fans. Before Jenkins was given the job, Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire) was a name speculated to be in negotiations with Marvel. If the ever talented Kirk got the job, Thor 2 would surely please fans and be a hit in the box office.

Marvel has set a November 15, 2013 release date for the sequel, which brings back Chris Hemsworth as the superhero, and Thor co-writer Don Payne who is writing the script.
