Book Review: ‘Cut Me Free’ by J.R Johansson

CutMeFreeFinalThis story played my heartstrings like a violin, making me laugh, cry, and fall in love with all the characters. “Cut Me Free” by J.R Johansson is a great book and one that nobody should miss out on. The story kicks off with Piper, a lonely girl with fears as well as regrets from her past, looking to hire someone to help her forget and start over. Piper finds Cameron, who promises her a new identity. But that alone doesn’t keep her safe.

Piper, now known as Charlotte, finds someone who is forced into the same dangers her and her brother were exposed to before her escape. Rather then walking away and living her new life, she turns around and tries to be the hero her brother always knew she was. Piper is a vigilante in the making in this novel, and her alter-ego happens to be Charlotte. Even when Charlotte is becoming stronger and learning the importance of bravery, she still can’t get herself to trust Cameron and finds herself either running away or hesitating every time he asks a question regarding Piper’s life rather then Charlotte’s.

Piper’s past affects Charlotte’s future as she quickly learns that someone from the past has been trying to track her down. Whoever this person is, they know all her secrets and more importantly knows where she lives. He is playing games with Piper, scaring her off and making sure that he is in control. Charlotte has too much to lose now; people she loves, freedom, and a new family. She won’t let this mystery man have control over her life, so she decides to put an end to the fear and manipulation; that is, until she realizes she is no longer fighting alone. Cameron won’t let her fight without his help. He can offer her stability no one else is able to give her, even after he learns all her hidden secrets. He doesn’t run away; he sticks by her side and helps her fight the demons she has had to live with for so long.

“Cut Me Free” by J.R Johansson is an amazing story about a young girl who is stronger then she looks. She has overcome more then anyone could ever imagine and instead of having her past destroy her, she lets it give her strength and endurance for her new whirlwind of a life.
