Film Review: AMERICAN REUNION, starring Jason Biggs & Seann William Scott

As a fan of the American Pie movies, I welcome back the return of Jim, Stifler and the rest of the gang. In their latest movie, the group of friends unites for their high school reunion. Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) are now parents and having some trouble bringing back some romance in their relationship. Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicolas) is married and teased about how whipped he is by his wife. Oz (Chris Pine) is the host of a sports talk show, but most famous for his stint on a reality dance show competition. Stifler (Seann Willam Scott) is a temp at a business firm and has to deal with an egomaniac boss. Finally, Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) comes back to town with tales of his worldwide adventures. While you probably already know what shenanigans these guys will get into, you can’t help but have a good time at American Reunion.

When the group reunites, they realized that all their dreams they had for the future in high school didn’t completely pan out. They make a deal to work on those; plus, they want make the best of their time back together. When a bunch of teenagers pull a prank on them, of course they retaliate back in hilarious fashion. Jim gets mixed with a teenager that he used to babysit, and hilarity ensues when she drunkenly tries to seduce him. In addition, Jim is trying to help his father (Eugene Levy) move on from his wife’s death and decides to invite him to one of Stifler’s parties. The rest of the group also gets into their own little problems. Oz and Heather (Mena Suvari) are reunited and obviously still have feelings for each other. Finch falls for the new bartender, and Kevin and Vicky (Tara Reid) may or may not have slept together.

A ton goes on, but with a comedy like this, it’s good to keep the ball and laughs going. The plot is exactly what you expect from an American Pie movie, and the majority is hilarious (and quite a lot is gross). It’s a no-brainer for an American Pie fan to go see it. When watching it, I realized how much I missed these characters and their funny mishaps and adventures. If you’re not a fan already, then this movie is definitely not for you. American Reunion is made for the fans that want to have one last go around with these characters. Before the screening, Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott introduced the film and said that this was the best American Pie film yet. I beg to differ, but I will say that it is the best one since the original.

American Reunion hits theaters April 6th.
