Watch: Teaser Trailer for Laika’s Upcoming ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’

From animation studio LAIKA (Coraline and ParaNorman), comes it’s next innovative stop motion film sure to entertain audiences. Set in a magical version of Japan, Kubo and the Two Strings is an action-adventure that tells the story of a kindhearted, but clever, storyteller named Kubo (voiced by Art Parkinson). After accidentally releasing a vengeful spirit from his past, Kubo sets off on an epic journey with Beetle (Matthew McConaughey) and Monkey (Charlize Theron) to save his family and uncover the mystery surrounding his dead father, the greatest samurai in the world. Armed with his shamisen- a magical musical instrument- battles several gods and monsters to fulfill his destiny. The film also features the voice talents of Ralph Fiennes, Rooney Mara, and George Takei.

Directed by Travis Knight, Kubo and the Two Strings marks the animator’s directorial debut. Marc Haimes and Chris Butler (ParaNorman) served as writers for the film.

Kubo and the Two Strings opens nationwide on August 19th, 2016.
