While we are still in the early stages of 2016, it is the perfect time to reevaluate our current mindsets and focus on positive living. For those looking to adopt a more positive outlook on life, “Zen and The Art of Happiness” by Chris Prentiss is the perfect read.

For a little book of under 150 pages, it is bursting at the seams with wisdom regarding how to achieve long-lasting happiness. Readers must pick up this book with an open mind and willingness to try new ways of thinking. Many of the concepts explored are different to what society usually accepts as the norm and therefore, must be considered without prejudice. At the beginning of each chapter there is a quote from a philosopher that will inspire the reader and guide them on their journey of contemplation.

The author details the techniques behind maintaining a positive outlook in a gentle and non-preachy way. He does not aggressively argue his standpoint, but lays out ideologies for the reader to digest at their own pace. All of the theories are backed up with examples and detailed explanations to put them into a real life context and help the reader fully understand them.

Living life through a lens of positivity and peacefulness has an abundance of benefits. From increased productivity to better relations with those around us, the way in which we view the world plays a huge role in how we conduct ourselves and what we get out of it. Discarding negativity helps one achieve a sense of mental clarity that is mind-blowing. One of the many things I love about this book is how it gives the individual the power to make a change in their life through its teachings.

Through gaining a sense of happiness, Prentiss explains how one’s life transforms for the better in several different ways. Since reading this book, I have learned to silence my worries and concentrate all my energies on progressing toward my goals. Negativity holds us back from so much and wastes precious time, breaking away from this and embracing a positive way of living does wonders. If you never give something a shot, you never have the chance to achieve what you desire. This book will help you expand your capabilities by teaching you how to be the sole controller of your own destiny.

Along with this, this book goes into detail about how the reader can become more connected with the world around them. A lot of this book focuses on the idea of all of us being a product of the universe and being inextricably connected to it as a result.

Life is short, we might as well live every moment to the fullest and reach our full potential by learning how to embrace positivity. Negativity is a major hindrance and prevents people from achieving success. Those who become entrapped in negativity are less likely to follow their dreams and take chances because they do not believe things will turn out well. Changing this mindset gives you the freedom to shoot for the stars and create your own reality.
