There was tons going on this week’s episode of The 100.
After blowing up Mount Weather, Queen Nia is still after blood. To be specific, she’s after Lexa’s blood. She’s brought into the room in chains but still with her head held up high, never one to lose her dignity. In fact, she has a smirk on her face as she calls on a vote of confidence. This means that if the vote is unanimous the current commander is no longer. All of the ambassadors stand to their feet in agreement. The vote isn’t unanimous thanks to Clarke who is now part of the 13th clan. Lexa knows what Nia wants and so she accepts the challenge to death.
Nia chooses who will fight for her, her son Roan, prince of the Ice Nation. But Lexa chooses no one. She is the Commander, no one fights for her. PURE CHILLS.
Clarke wasn’t the only one worried for Lexa. To be honest I wasn’t sure if Lexa would have a chance to beat Roan. And we very well know that this show isn’t afraid to kill anyone off. I mean, Finn? That still resonates deep.
Anyways, next thing we know Lexa is calmly training her the Nightbloods- they are kids who have been selected to succeed if she were to die in the challenge. When I say kids, I mean they are LITERAL children who have barely hit their pre-teen years. Lexa introduces Clarke to her most promising Nightblood, Aiden. He pledges his loyalty to the 13th clan if he were to become Heda. I find it extremely nice that Lexa is covering all her bases to protect the 13th clan even after her death. Yes, she likes to keep her word but we all know she also has a deep affection for Clarke.
This affection must go both ways because Clarke was seeking every route possible to save Lexa from this battle. She first asks Roan to kill his mother. No biggie. And when he’s hesitant about it she decides to storm into Queen Nia’s room claiming to change her vote against Lexa as long as she promises not to hurt her people. Keep Calm! Clarke isn’t betraying Lexa in fact she tries to poison the Ice Nation Queen as they seal their deal with blood. Unfortunately, Nia’s attendant, Ontari, catches on to her plan. Nia doesn’t kill Clarke but as a message to Lexa she slices Ontari’s hand and pours her black blood on Clarke’s face.
What’s the message and why is this girl’s blood black?! Let me explain. The Nightbloods are children who have black blood just like the original commander did. They believe that any child with this trait could be commander. Which means that Lexa herself must have black blood as well. All of these children are brought to train at Polis. But the fact that Nia has kept some like Ontari means that Ice Nation could be in possession of the next commander.
Why do I take the time to explain this? The creator of the show, Jason Rothenberg, specifically mentioned how the Nightbloods will be important. They are not something that was randomly put into the show. Keep your eyes open for how they will play it later on this season. I, for one, am quite intrigued and excited about it!

Anyways, fight day has arrived and Lexa was right, we shouldn’t have been so worried because she can fight! I loved that the fact that the fight was between a woman and a man was never even mentioned. No sexism here. Both were certainly keeping up in this duel and these scenes were intense! Not only were the fight scenes excellently executed but the way it was shot was also extremely well done!
After heavily duking it out, Lexa has Roan nailed on the floor with her spear. The Queen gets up and shouts out to Roan that if he dies, he will not die like a prince but as a coward. BEST MOM EVER! To which he tells Lexa, “get over with it.” But Lexa pulls the BADDEST move ever. She hurls the spear straight at Nia and boom the witch is dead! MY JAW HIT THE FLOOR. She begins chanting, “The queen is dead. Long live the king!” Once again, Lexa gave me major chills. Aiden, her Nightblood stood in complete awe at his Commander. Same kid, same.
After the big fight. Lexa and Clarke have a moment to themselves. Clarke brings up a good point: all her ambassadors betrayed her, what now? But Lexa shows her softer side and shows her they did what was best for their people too. Her mercy on the ambassadors also indicates that there’s more to Lexa’s leadership than what we have seen before.
Back in Arkadia, everything is chaos.

I thought that with Jaha gone things would be much better. But in exchange for Jaha being gone we now have Pike. I’m not sure who is more annoying! Both love to start riots and division among the people are extremely clueless about the art of war and the grounders.
Lexa has sent an army of 300 to camp outside Arkadia for PROTECTION. But Pike insists that these grounders are no better than the Ice Nation that blew up his people on Mount Weather.
He has riled up not only the farm station but others from Arkadia as well. In the middle of the memorial for those that were lost at Mount Weather due to the Ice Nation attack a huge brawl breaks out and one of the arkers throws a rock at Lincoln’s head. How dare they question his loyalty when they JUST got here? Lincoln is even nice enough not to press charges. Ugh.
Bellamy is mourning the loss of his girlfriend and Pike still preys on his vulnerability. He asks Bellamy to help him secure his people guns so that they can down the grounders that are camped out. Bellamy agrees as I kept screaming at my TV for him to stop this madness. Why is Bellamy always a lost puppy? Can someone please be a good father figure for him once in his life? Pike is not the one!

Lincoln stops Pike’s mission as Kane and Abby take him and all the others under arrest. One of Pike’s supporters says that he should be on the ballot for the Chancellor election and Bellamy helps out by chanting “Pike!” The next morning Kane comes to Pike’s cell and announces him as the new Chancellor. HOW ON EARTH DID THIS HAPPEN? This man hasn’t even been here long. How has he earned this? The arkers can be so painfully ignorant.
Pike smirks and mentions his first three rules of action. The first to pardon him and all his supporters. The second to deny their claim as the 13th clan of the coalition (stupid). The third, to finish what they started and eliminate the grounders who are a threat to his people.
Bellamy chooses to leave with Pike much to Kane’s disappointment and to mine’s as well.
I’m not sure what part of “THEY’RE THERE FOR YOUR PROTECTION” does this man not understand? He’s delusional and arrogant. Two qualities that are terrible for a leader.
War is eminent and things are about to get even more ugly. But this wouldn’t be The 100 if it didn’t get worse from here on.
Also, Jasper was being his usual drunken self. I know that he’s going through emotional turmoil but to remind and blame Monty for what happened to Maya is cruel. At that moment Monty had enough finally and left him alone. I’m wondering when they’re going to move Jasper’s story line even an inch forward because this is getting old.
All in all a very busy episode with tons of action but also prepped for the madness that’s going to ensue the rest of this season. Hold on tight because things are going to get even more interesting.
