Crane and the gang are home again in this week’s episode of Sleepy Hollow “Homecoming” where ghosts of the past aren’t far from our heroes’ minds as they search for the final piece of the Philosopher’s Stone and face down against an arrow flinging Sphinx, who apparently was entombed in Sleepy Hollow as a guard dog.
Of course it wouldn’t be Sleepy Hollow without Jenny procuring a giant, snake-entwined vibrating tuning fork used to detect magical items, more specifically the final piece of the Stone. With new faces Alex, Jake and Diana in Sleepy Hollow for the first time, it lends to some interesting tensions between Alex, John and Jenny that have been building up regarding whether or not Alex and Jake can actually handle the work of being a witnesses’ sidekick. Alex finally stands up to “mommy” Jenny stating that they understand the dangers that they face helping Crane and they she shouldn’t be treating them like, well, children.
I have to say, good for you Alex! While I’m not a huge fan of her character it’s good to see her stand-up against the machine that is Jenny Mills every once and awhile. Sometimes the woman needs to let others help join in on the fight.
Meanwhile, after they take down the Sphinx Crane and Diana get to the final piece of the Stone only for Crane to get locked in the room by himself and taken by Dreyfuss’ demon lackey along with the stone.
Big discoveries were made during the confrontation between Dreyfuss and Crane, particularly between the relationship between Washington and Crane back in his own time period. It turns out that the Philosopher’s Stone is the same stone that entwined Crane’s blood with the horseman’s the day he died, and Washington knew about it all along sacrificing one of his closest friends for the greater good.
Dreyfuss wouldn’t be much of an evil villain if he didn’t have a master plan. He wants to preform a ritual with the Stone, Crane and the horseman that will give him the immortal life he desires. There is a cost though, the magic it will take to give Dreyfuss immortal life will create a storm destroying the town and everyone in it.
The rest of the gang shows up to save the day though, placing bombs on the Stone while Jenny traps Dreyfuss’ demon in a magical lantern that Benjamin Franklin once owned. It seems like everything has exploded, Dreyfuss included, leading to a much needed celebration for the gang which really united Crane’s new team for the first time since the season started.
With “team witness” now formed and evil seemingly vanquished, it’s not the last we see of Dreyfuss who pry’s himself out from the wreckage of the explosion immortal and very much alive.

While it’s nice to finally see the gang back in Sleepy Hollow, it clearly isn’t the same without Abbie Mills so it may be a good thing we having a new fresh setting in D.C. The old stomping grounds just seemed dead and vacant in tonight’s episode.
Sleepy Head Highlight: It’s a tough one this week! Stuck between Crane’s blue Slurpee-induced brain freeze or his visit to Abbie’s grave where he tells her about the new Hogwarts theme park he plans to go to, in full Ravenclaw attire of course.
