The death of another rapper creates some bad times for Eddie on this week’s Fresh Off the Boat. Finally coming to terms with Tupac’s death, Eddie felt like he was ready to move on, but before he got a chance to do that, it was announced that Biggie had been killed. This caused Eddie to relapse and go into depression.
On a positive note, the attempts to cheer him up were the funniest moments of the whole situation. Evan did the best out of everyone. The way he wore those really short shorts, and how he broke down and started hitting Eddie’s butt in an attempt to break him out of it. Two opposing forms of showing his brother that he cares. The intervention was also a funny moment where his friends tried to cheer him up by sharing their problems, but it didn’t work, but it was funny the way Eddie instantly brought down the mood. Emery didn’t help much until the end, but it was hilarious to see Alison freak out about whether or not the hamster mother ate its baby.
The way in which Eddie explained his sorrow was nicely done. This artist meant something to him, and his music got Eddie through some rough times. That sentiment felt relatable because a lot of people have artists or songs that have been with them during different points in their life. Knowing that made the painting at the end even more impactful, especially since Emery painted his brother and him hanging with Biggie on a boat.
Aside from Eddie’s woes was his parents struggle with their personal lives getting out. As the show has shown many times before, Jessica doesn’t like losing, and there’s no exceptions when it comes to games, especially charades. But she had her reason for not liking the game. Louis is not good at charades. In fact, he’s really bad, and thanks to that, Jessica lost and immediately got ready for bed – that whole charades sequence being one long joke.
Louis then went to Honey for help, and she told him to compliment the trait he wanted to criticize, stress that he means no offense, and then flip the compliment into a critique, which he did with flying colors, until he told Jessica that Honey told him to do that. She was then pissed because now their personal business was out there. Her anger made sense, but it was also weird because everyone knows that she doesn’t like to lose, so her fear of Marvin telling everyone felt odd, but not too out of place.
Her offensive strategy was surprising. I was with Louis and thought that she’d tell Marvin a secret that way the town had a secret on both of them, but that wasn’t the case. She did the opposite and made them look better, until Louis messed that up by telling secrets about both of them. The secret reveal scene and the following one at their home was great because the secrets weren’t even that bad, and it defied expectations. Also, who cares if Louis wears lifts? 5’9’’ isn’t that short. Anyway, the important thing was that Jessica was looking out for both of them because they’re a team. Although, in the end it didn’t matter because every couple has a moment where they complain about their significant other which the Huangs learned at the following game of charades. It’s a normal thing to do.
Lastly, shoutout to the grandma’s The Real World tape. What she said was funny, and I was definitely interested to find out which ethnicity she doesn’t have a friend in, but what made it funnier was that she was speaking in Chinese the entire time, so it can be assumed that The Real World producers wouldn’t know what was saying.
