This week’s episode of Sleepy Hollow “The Way of the Gun” was a doozy, and by doozy I mean the best episode of the season so far filled with time traveling surprises, major transformations and a new threat no one saw coming.
Of course this dense episode starts off lightly with Crane losing his marbles at Molly’s school play. Which is hilarious because every time Crane gets excited about something it’s, well, hilarious.
Things go dark though when a mysterious girl shows up, and Diana feels like she just walked over her own grave. A feeling Crane knows all too well.
We are then introduced to the Arma Mutata, the ancient group of the week, who bonded human’s to the horsemen of the apocalypse. The mystery girl makes another appearance, sneaking around the Agency and stealing an ancient tomb from right under their noses. She also had a Arma Mutata tattoo on her arm.
We find out that the girl’s name is “Lara” and she manipulates time by using a magical crystal that expels Jobe and other demons when she welds it.
Her goal? To steal Ben Banneker’s hidden treasure, the Totem of War, which is a gun made from legendary blades that Jobe is also going after which raises the horseman of war when you shoot it. Which is, of course, Dreyfuss’ evil plan.
The only way the destroy the gun is to bring it to a nexus where the lay lines meet, but Lara has other plans and makes off with the gun when she reveals that Dreyfuss raised hr like a daughter after she lost her mother, but his tyrannical rule over the United States severed their relationship and caused Lara to go rouge.
Things go down between Alex and Jake too though between the Crane, Diana, Lara madness of the episode. The duo gets captured by Dreyfuss and are questioned about the gun’s whereabouts. When Jake refuses to give up an answers, Jobe sticks his hand in his back and gives Jake a horrible vision of Alex getting her neck snapped.

This freaks Jake out and he spills everything he knows. Alex is about to come clean about her feelings for Jake when Jenny comes in though, what it looked like, the ceiling and frees the two before Alex come clean.
Maybe next week Alex, but I have a feeling team witness is going to have their hands filled.
Crane and Diana track Lara to the Flame of the Eternals where the gun was forged. Her plans are thwarted when Jobe Jedi forces to gun to Dreyfuss, Lara saves the day when Crane shoots Dreyfuss, but the bullet wound heals because Dreyfuss is immortal now.
Lara opens up the vial of solar crystal and blasts them. They recover a bit too quickly and confront Crane, Diana and Lara.

That’s when things get crazy. Really crazy for Sleepy Hollow standards.
It turns out that the school play was the last time Molly ever saw her mother Diana again because Dreyfuss turns her into the horseman of war. Thus, leading to Dreyfuss taking in and raising Molly as his own.
So Lara equals Molly, an older Molly who’s kicks-ass, takes names and is a lot of fun to watch. So I’m hoping this older Molly sticks around for a while.
For team witness though, things never go the way they intend too, even when Dreyfuss wins.

Crane takes the bullet for Diana, and becomes the horseman of war in a fiery conclusion to the best episode of Sleep Hollow this season.

“Yes! Yes indeed! Huzzah! Very well said and said very well!
“Well the choreography is practically stiff and solid, it’s practically a minuet. These are enlisted men it should be a rowdy spree. They’re more interested in the posterity of the present. A shame, theater should be relished in the moment.”
“This is a theater not a morgue!”
