This week’s episode of The Originals, “No Quarter,” starts right where we left off last week with the Mikaelson siblings awoken from their five year slumber to rescue their brother from Marcel’s seemingly never-ending need for vengeance.
I used to like Marcel, and I fully understand why he’s so pissed off at Klaus. Elijah did rip his heart out and toss his body in the river, but boy was Marcel annoying as hell in this episode. It got to a point where, I think, the original gang felt the same way too while standing around and listening to Marcel’s rants and rages.
In fact, I think Marcel is becoming just as bad as the originals.
Because they are villains technically – Klaus, Elijah, Bex, Kol and even Freya – we are getting a flipped perspective and seeing this story through the villains’ eyes as our main protagonists. So yes, I’m totally rooting for Elijah to rip out the heart of the man who has managed to keep the peace in New Orleans for five years, I want Kol to snap guy-good Josh’s neck to make sure his siblings are alright, and I cheered when Bex threw that guy ten feet in the air through a spike in the grave yard.
Why? Because it’s fun rooting for the villain with a heart of gold. That, and I’m a total sucker for the ever-tortured, I want to do good but I just can’t get it right, Klaus.
That being said, seeing Klaus finally getting to see his sleeping daughter Hope for the first time in five years was deeply satisfying. It was a little moment of peace during an episode riddled with the chaos of rescue missions, heart rippings and dagger stabbings. It was also nice to see Cami again, even if it’s was just an hallucination.
We are also getting more of a glimpse into the over-arching new big bad of the season (which is an ominous glowing ball of blue light), who I’m assuming, is going to force the Mikaelson’s and Marcel to reconcile in New Orleans after Marcel let Klaus free to never return. We don’t know much about this threat yet, only that it’s represented in a dragon eating its tail symbol and that it seems to be targeting children. It’s apparently all Vincent’s fault that this entity is in New Orleans in the first place.
If I had to guess, little Hope is going to be tangled up in this mess. We already saw her drawing the symbol over and over again in the room last week (I love that she’s a little artist like her dad), and we really don’t know anything about Hope. Does she know that her mother kept her super-old sleeping aunts and uncles in coffins in their attic? Does she know that her father’s one of the oldest and most dangerous vampires ever? Does she know that her mother is a werewolf? Does she know that she’s part vampire, witch and werewolf? Does she turn into a little wolf pup during the full moon or does she drink blood with her cereal in the morning? Maybe she practices casting hexes after school instead of going to softball practice?

Does she even go to school? I don’t know, but I have a feeling she must know that somethings up with her family and it looks like next week we’ll know for sure where Hope’s knowledge of the truth lies.
