Book Review: ‘Will Grayson, Will Grayson’ by John Green & David Levithan

Words cannot fathom the immensity of love that I have for this book.

First of all, “Will Grayson, Will Grayson” is written by two authors: John Green (Looking For Alaska, An Abundance of Katherines) and David Levithan (Boy Meets Boy, Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist). The book is about two boys, both named Will Grayson whom as the book keeps going end up meeting each other and their lives change forever. Let me explain a little further:

As you begin the book, you don’t know which Will Grayson is which, so the authors put it this way, 1 chapter for each Will. So then:

1. Will Grayson. Writes everything with perfect grammar and punctuation. He is straight. His best friend is Tiny Cooper, an openly gay football player.  They’re both in the GSA at school with their friend Jane, who by the way is straight.

2. will grayson. Everything he writes is lowercased. He is gay. He lives only with his mother, and takes medication for depression. He rarely interacts with people, one of the few is his friend Maura and a guy named Isaac, whom he meet online.

Both Will Grayson’s have different stories: Will Grayson goes to Chicago with Tiny and Jane to a rock concert. Unluckily, his fake ID didn’t work so he ends up wandering around the streets and somehow enters a sex shop. will grayson had some sort of relationship online with a guy named Isaac. They would exchange pictures and have conversations on IM. One day Isaac tells will grayson to meet up at some place in Chicago. Little did will grayson know that the address Isaac gave him was the same sex shop that the other Will Grayson was in.

People who read the book will relate differently to each Will Grayson, they’re both angsty teenagers trying to find their place in the world with different perspectives in love and life. As you read the book, you’re guaranteed laughs and WTF moments. If I ever become a film director, I would LOVE to film this movie mainly because of: Tiny Cooper and his musical, Tiny Dancer, which is all shades of fabulous. And he after all, is one of the main characters too, bringing a pivotal change to the story for both Will Grayson’s.

I don’t want to say much about the book besides the fact that you will: laugh, cry, smile and think about life and those people you meet along the way who create an impact in your life. When I finished the book I didn’t even know what to do, I was crying and smiling like an idiot and texted Gaby “YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK”.

John Green and David Levithan are just FANTASTIC as a team. I hope they write stories as enjoyable as “Will Grayson,Will Grayson”. Once you read it, you’ll love it.
