Film Review: ‘Horrible Bosses’ is one of the best comedies of 2011!

Lucy’s thoughts: I love this movie. Now that I’m remembering scenes about the movie I can’t help but LOL as I’m typing this up. Please, please go see Horrible Bosses this weekend, you can thank me later.

The storyline was great, I mean who doesn’t want to kill their boss? Who hasn’t fantasized about how the world could be a better place if your boss didn’t exist? Well, this is what Nick Hendricks (Jason Bateman), Kurt Buckman (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale Arbus (Charlie Day) have to deal with every day at work. Their bosses, Dave Harken (Kevin Spacey), Bobby Pellit (Colin Farrell) and Julia Harris (Jennifer Aniston) respectively, are seriously PSYCHO with the things that not only they do but think about doing in the workplace. One night, after a couple of beers, they decide to take their plan into action and actually kill their bosses. They go in Kurt’s car and ask the GPS to take them to “the worst and most dangerous bar in town”, there they start looking for someone to do the dirty work for them and are led to meet up with MoFo Jones (Jamie Foxx), and yes that is really his name. He doesn’t do the killing, instead he teaches the trio about committing the perfect murder, and what better way to do so than to kill each other’s boss so no one becomes suspicious right away.

You guys, watch these three guys try to commit murder is HILARIOUS. From the moment the movie begins and each one of them starts telling their story about their job, you will be laughing. As a matter of fact, you will laugh at the credits too because there’s bloopers at the end, and if you enjoy the movie as much as I did, you can tell that these guys were cracking up the whole time as they filmed it.

Is it one of the best comedies I’ve seen in 2011? You bet! I was laughing throughout the whole thing and there wasn’t one single dull moment.
Oh, and you’re being warned right now: you’re bound to love Charlie Day, he’s way too funny. I can say this beforehand: you’re welcome.

Gaby’s thoughts: When I first heard what Horrible Bosses was about, I wasn’t interested. The story seemed a little dumb and didn’t have much room to be clever. However, once I saw the first trailer, I was sold. Almost all of us have experience with terrible bosses, and here’s a movie that puts a comedic spin on some of our non-serious, hypothetical, “it’s just talk” fantasies of murdering our bosses.

Horrible Bosses is hilarious. Not only is the writing and dialogue great, but the actors hit almost every comedic line out of the park. After watching Going the Distance, I knew that Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day made a great team, and I was excited to see them together again in a new comedy. Sudeikis, Day, and Jason Bateman are a hilarious team, as they each try to kill each other’s bosses. The bosses are also funny characters. Kevin Spacey is crazy and egomaniacal as Bateman’s boss. We see a new side of Colin Farrell as Sudeikis’ cokehead boss. Poor Charlie Day is sexually harassed daily by his boss, played as Jennifer Aniston. Finally, we get Jamie Foxx in a very very funny role, as the guy who gives the guys advice on how to kill their bosses… and get away with it.

I enjoyed every minute of Horrible Bosses. This is probably the best comedy I have seen since The Hangover. If you are heading to a movie theater this weekend, I suggest you go check this one out!

Horrible Bosses will be released into theaters Friday, July 8th.
