Many things were going on in Chicago on Halloween night. One of them was the Motion City Soundtrack concert at the House of Blues. Motion City Soundtrack (MCS) has been one of my favorite bands for years, and I’m always up for going to one of their shows, especially one on Halloween.
Three bands opened for MCS: Valencia, Saves the Day, Say Anything. Unfortunately, I was late to the show and missed Valencia’s set. I ended up arriving halfway through Saves the Day’s set. After watching them for awhile, my friend pointed that they were all dressed as Andrew W.K. Say Anything went up next. From what I remember, they were not dressed up. To be honest, I am not really familiar with those bands. But both bands showed a ton of energy and really got the audience hyped for MCS.
Finally, MCS walked on stage dressed as hot dogs! (Or “Hallo-wieners” as they called themselves) The first song was “Everything Is Alright,” one of their most famous singles to get the crowd crazy. I had gone to one of MCS’ concerts back in April, and had an awesome time. They played a great mixture of new and old songs. However, this time, it seemed like they played more new songs than old. I’m not a fan of their new album; so I couldn’t help but be disappointed by some of their song choices. But when they played those few old songs, you could feel the energy exponentiate even higher. Hearing “The Future Freaks Me Out” live never gets old.
All in all, it was a pretty great show. If you’re a fan of MCS or any of the other bands, I definitely recommend you make it a point to see them live.
