Veteran alt-rock act Death Cab for Cutie have released their first new song in four years. “Black Sun” is the first single from the group’s eighth album, Kintsugi, due for release by Atlantic Records on March 31. The band released a lyric video for the song this morning, which you can watch below.

Kintsugi is the band’s final album to feature founding guitarist Chris Walla and their first not to be produced by him. The band recorded the album with Rich Costey, who has previously produced records for Muse, Interpol and Franz Ferdinand. Walla amicably left the group last September, following a farewell performance at the Rifflandia Music Festival in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

The lyrics to “Black Sun” were revealed through the band’s website. Sections of a canvas with lyrics painted on them by singer Ben Gibbard were sent to Death Cab fans around the world, who then posted the segments online. All but five of the pieces have been posted, and a near-complete lyric sheet can be seen here.

The band has also announced tour dates between April and July to promote the album. The band will open the tour on Apr. 10 at FestivALTAZ in Mesa, Arizona. With the exception of that first date and another show in Kansas City, Missouri, all April and May dates will feature support from The Antlers. Aside from FestivALTAZ, tickets for the shows have not yet gone on sale.
